Thoughts on this biome plugin?

Hm, interesting. Does it require the map to be reloaded or anything, or can it all be done on-the-fly? I couldn't really tell from the Bukkit page

I'm all for this then! The only reason why this wouldn't work logistically is restarts, but since they're not required, this sounds good. Maybe there could be a set time, say once a month or something, where an op would tend to all the biome change requests, so that way they're not inundated with requests.

i like it but if the server restarts does the old seed reset the changed biome back?

can someone see if this is an issuse even with crashing?

The biome isnt seed dependent in the new map format if i recall correctly. It gets stored in the map data itself.

You're right. According to the minecraft wiki.
"In the Anvil file format, biomes are stored directly in the world data. This differs from the previous Region file format format, where biomes were dynamically calculated from the seed."(Minecraftwiki)

Don't quote me on this but I believe biome shifts can be performed with our current setup. As for them actually being carried out, that's a matter for the operators.

Providing they reliably work I can't think of any issues, any ideas on implementation? (I was thinking forum post in land claims section)

(I was thinking forum post in land claims section)

There could be a donation or at least caps involved since it takes time to do, but the price probably shouldn't be that high. Maybe 500-1000 caps.

Maybe have the first one free? So when you claim the land you can have exactly what you want. Then everyone has the ability to do it without constantly annoying operators by asking them to change their biome.

To be completely honest this should only be open for people who have claims in historic that were messed up due to biome shifts. If you have a claim in build that you want changed, why did you claim it in the first place?

The current build world has not had a biome shift correct?

Not sure if this was due to a biome shift or not, but before 1.2 my land did not have ice forming on it. Now half my claim has ice. And not all biomes are available to be claimed in the build world, like jungle biomes and any other future biomes.

There was definately a biome shift in build. I claimed a forest biome and now the whole thing's tundra with ice eerywhere

We've never had jungle biomes in build. Build was generated way before jungles came around.
What's there now is from the only shift that has ever happened is from the initial anvil update.

It would definitely be nice to get a jungle biome in build
There are a few jungle biomes around now after the anvil update. There will never be a real jungle because it would require full chunk regens.

As for changing the biomes on chunks, it can be done with our current system but needs a reboot to take effect fully.
