Giving players access to the /ptime command in build would be a great asset for working on projects in the night. The command allows you to change that the player sees in his client. However, it does not affect the game mechanics, only the light level. Unlike full bright mods that do something like this, it doesn't light up caves, and still requires the use of torches to do so. Obviously this shouldn't be enabled in the survival worlds (although it doesn't affect monster spawning). Working on a project at night can be a pain since its hard to see and to put torches in every dark spot just wastes time. Some may see it as cheating, but it doesn't give you and advantage over anyone else and it only affects the person using it.

This has been brought up several times in the past, and each time Jangles said no. I doubt he will say yes this time, but theres only one way to find out. Send him a PM on the forums and see what he says

I built so much stuff during the night, I don't see why we'd suddenly be able to stay daytime all the time.

Is it so hard to plan ahead and light the work area?

It is a definite advantage for one player over others that don't know the existence of the command.

It's not a competitive advantage, but you'd be able to say: "this has been built with /ptime enabled" or something.

You'd have the pre /ptime builds and the post /ptime builds.

This is an issue that has to do with the way the higher ups want to keep the experience as vanilla as possible.

Except maybe speed up building at night, I don't see why we'd implement this.
