for the last couple days i've been messing around with a few alternatives to the official minecraft server.
first was Bravo which is written in python, plugins are python based, threading and some entities supported as well as standard irc, multiworld and physics, although i can get this to compile and load, as well as connect, my lack of knowledge of python left loading errors ive had pretty much at a dead end although this seems to be the most adv project, haven't had much luck.

also tried Mcserver which is written in C++, this is probably the most adaptable one ive seen although its probably the furthest behind outta them, all scripting is in lua making it incredibly easy to write plugins and customize the way the server functions. no multiworld no irc which using lua pretty sure can't be done with out a stand alone being compiled

the third and the one ive spent the most time with is MineServer, written again in C++ very stable supports irc multiworlds, some entities supported (minecarts) ect... all plugins are written and have to be compiled in c and there seems to be an issue with recieving compiled plugins from elsewhere
also the fact that the pluggins are written in c and compiled has made a complete lack of it, the terrain generator is alittle wonky, trees in water ect... this does however have changing seasons, multiworld support for the nether or just multiple worlds, and seems to be fairly stable

i thought this would be a neat direction to go in as all of these ive noticed run at 25% or less of the required resources as the offical server, although bravo does have some read write issues as far as speed, long waits to generate, ect... the others do seem to be much faster.

if anyone is interested in this at some point maybe looking towards shifting the server over to a third party software or if anyone is good with python, maybe they could give bravo a go and let me know how it works out :)

It may be appealing but I've never been a fan of the other guy. Minecraft Addicts will always run official software and I'd rather you not promote your server here.

i think this is more of he's playing around with stuff to see what works best to suggest to this server?

yes thats what i hope im guessing.

Sorry, I didn't mean to offend you. I saw it more as a possible future server. Thanks for offering a suggestion like this but I honestly have zero interest in third-party apps and this won't be the direction we'll be going in.

That is what I intended fluffy, this server is well maintained kept up to date, with incredible hosting, and a good community. I already talked to jangles about it, if thats not what hes interested in thats fair. I am going to continue to mess around with it, and again stating i really have no interest in hosting a server aside from private testing. So I guess we can probably close this thread.
