Can't connect to Minecraft with 1.7

So, I tried to log back in today after a long hiatus just to see how things are going, but with 1.7 I can't even connect to the Minecraft server (Minecraft itself, not minecraftaddicts), and can only play offline. Then I update to 1.8 just to try it and get the black screen.... Looks like no Minecraft for me for a bit.

Works for me...

Check your texture pack folder and make sure there aren't any texture packs in there.
Delete the meta-inf folder in your jar.
Make sure port 25565 is forwarded on your router, if you have one.

If none of those work...use google.

you only need to forward that port if you want to host a server. the router setting you need to make sure is enabled is: UPnP
