heya fellas and addicts

Its time to upgrade my CPU....well me thinks so :) and my cpu knowledge is confusing soooo ye....

I am currently rolling with intel q6700 on socket 775 not oc'd (nforce 790i ultra sli mobo). I dont know if socket 775 and LGA 775 is the same thing I'll need to look into that.
I know thats older tech but i dont feel like updating my mobo yet, still happy with this one.
I am just looking for suggestions and tips what would work best for me.

Any help as links, articles etc... is appreciated, thanks in advance.

Not entirely sure what you're going to be doing, but yes, socket 775 is the same as LGA 775.
Not really sure what to say if i'm honest, looks like you're already running a quad core so theres not much else you can do.

Any reason for the upgrade?

You've already got a Core2 Quad CPU. LGA775 doesn't go further than that. The best you could do on that platform is throw a ton of money at a newer C2Q with minimal performance gains. You already have a chip in the upper echelons of what the socket is capable of; your problem probably isn't really with the CPU to begin with. The entire platform is aging.

Save your cash for an Ivy Bridge setup later this year.
