Defective Furnaces?

Hey, Ive been smelting away lately, and i put exacally 8 charcoal/coal into the furnace for one stack of sand/cobblestone etc. Almost 70% of the time, it only smelts 63, not 64, and sometimes even 62 of 64. Im just wondering is this is some sort of lag or server issue. Is anyone else experiencing this problem?

I've been having the same problem, although less often. It has never done 62 instead of 64 for me, but quite often 63. Some people have said that it's defective coal? I'm not sure. Maybe notch just likes to screw us over.

I've experienced this problem.
Never yet had only 62 smelt but out of 32 furnaces only 5 smelted 63 instead of 64.
I've been looking around for an answer and haven't found anything useful.

if i remember correctly 1.6.6 bukkit doesnt do well with furnaces and it sometimes lags causing it to use more coal than needed or not enough

Same problem for me but its very seldom, maybe once or twice a day and thats it. I have so much coal and charcoal tho that it doesnt matter. Just build more furnaces

I've also been having the problem (happens 90% of the time), and it's annoying losing coal to lag...
