Follow My Build: Pillar of Autumn

i am going to be building the pillar of autumn

i am starting this build on the date of august 15th 2012.

i will be posting new screen shots every week of my progress on the build.

this will be a 4 stage process to finish the project.
first stage:
make a wire frame of the outside of the ship by using netherrack.
second stage:
fill in and replace the wire frame with smooth stone.

third stage:
make all of the designs on the outside of the ship

fourth stage:
build the inside as accurate is i can

when this project is done i am estimating it will be a 1:3 scale of the real ship
i would also like to say thanks to all the people who helped me tear down the stuff that was in the plot so i could start this project.

i just finished the front frame for the ship. took me a whopping 2.5 hours it was just i haven't been on in a few days so that slowed some things down here are some pictures so far of the ship

in one of the pictures it appears as though the top line isn't there but it is. it didn't show because i have my render on tiny to try and fight lag issues until i can get a new comp

i have decided to make a small change in plans for the construction. i will build the ship piece by piece and once i'm done the wire frame i will fill it in with stone as i go to make it less confusing

i have been working on this project faster than i had expected so now i will be uploading more pictures and info more frequently. i just finished switching the netherrack with stone and here are some pics.

it didn't take as long as making the frame first as all i had to do was replace instead of actually making it. next step. fill it in

there now the basic body of the front piece (and easiest piece) is vertually finished

the 3 circled things in this picture i am considering details so with that in mind they will be implemented on the 3rd stage

i will now be mving onto the second part of the ship (diectly behind te part i just finished)

the second part has been completed. it is ruffly 96 blocks tall and 46 blocks wide.

now I am going to start building the smallest yet most annoying part.

the reason it's the most annoying is because i had wanted to do details in the end but this one requires me to do them now.

i have finished the main part on the third piece.

are the main thrusters of the ship and will continue to the back. the only uncompleted part of this section is this

its just not running back all the way in a tube shape. i will do that when finished the 4th section. i have ruffly 200 blocks left in my plot so i plan to do this next part spanning at a massive 125 block distance

this part will take the longest not because of difficulty but because of time. i will upload weekly pictures of my progress whether it is finished or not.

I have recently finished the top half of this segment. The bottom half is the same (except flipped) but in between where they touch at the outer points there is a 10-15 block tall flat lip.

hey guys. sorry for not posting recently. too much stuff on the go. the build is coming great though. i have recently finished the main body piece and i will upload pictures when i can get back onto the server. i am now starting on the rear engine piece. after that will come detailing on the whole thing

wow i have not posted in a while but i am happy to finally say that i have completed the basic outer shell. the next step is for doing the decorations/designs on the outside. here are some pics

I have finished another part of the ship. it is one of the side pieces on the front section of the ship.

the 2 pieces are exactly symmetrical from each other and here is a screen shot of my mini map proving this

I plan to work on this part of the ship next.

I will hopefully keep posting here more often as i have been kind of lacking these past few weeks.

I have finally been able to get back to working on the pillar due to being away or being in war because Androcks kept insisting that i come. i have finished the side emblem

i also started building pelicans on the inside and have started working on the golden pelican. i currently need 85 gold blocks more but its coming along good

I am back. I will be uploading my progress every week again. I was just taking a long break from minecraft these past couple of weeks, so now that i'm back i will show a video of the completed gold pelican that richey helped me complete.

Well it has been a while since i made a post here. For starters i finished the second floor level.

I will continue on by making 2 more floors. I have also been busy in making pelicans on the inside of the ship.

I have also been working on a covenant corvette on the outside of the ship.

On the outside of the ship i plan to have a battle and i want your input for some of this. I will have pelicans flying around on the outside and if you want involvement i ask that you PM me your favorite block type (for looks wise) and ill will make a pelican out of that block and note you for it.

Just a quick little update here. Since DCL_ has provided me with all the stone i could ever need for this ship i put his name up on the side of the ship.

New little update here. I have been working on the rear end of the ship for the last bit and here is the progress.

The 2 stone tubes with water on the end or the engines. There are 2 identical ones on the opposite side of the ship. The 2 larger, more centered rings, are the going to be the main engines. here is what the back end should look like.

I will add those 4 really small engines to this place on the ship .

I messed up a little in making the back end and because of that the 2 outer engines are too far from the middle engines, so to fix this I am going to make 2 more engines on either side located at these points.

This will hopefully make it look a little more normal.

I have an update on the state of the inside right now. Currently I have finished 7 of the 8 pelicans that will be inside. As i stand now I need 115 diamond blocks to finish the last one and by then I should be ready to move onto the more detailed parts of the ship. The engines have finally been complete.

My plans from now on will be to complete all of the different levels inside the ship and finish the diamond/emerald pelican.
