Hello!

I'm considering whether or not to buy the full version of fraps and wanted to get comments from you guys about it. So, if you own the full version please let me know if it's worth the cost! What do you like about it?

Also, if you use something that you think is better, I'm all ears.

I'm looking for something that can video capture, while also getting mic and sound capture (so you could have a video that captures the game, the game's sounds, and any commentary I would add to it all at the same time).

Thanks

Well you can always find a torrent of the full version of fraps to test it out. Then you can decide whether or not you should buy it or not.
Remember to always support the developers of the applications you like.

To be honest I stepped away from fraps to record with dxtory
better performance, can record at multiple drives, more costumisation
also can record seperate audio streams at once with push to talk (making commentaries really simple without the hassle of testing sound volumes beforehand)

If you're planning on just doing solo commentary while you video, it might be best to record the video with no sound first then go back and do the voiceover after. I know from experience it's amazing how many "umms" "errs" and pauses you make that can really become noticeable in a video; having said that, if you really do prefer to do it all live it's totally possible too.

also remember the rights of the users that you are filming

ask if you can film them and to let them know when you are doing this.

we have allot of kids on our server for example and I know lots of parents would not want to have there kids voice on a strangers video.

just generally ask and every thing should be fine.

Hey guys,

thanks for the replies. A few questions, thoughts, and replies for all of you.

Alien12, my ISP blocks/tracks torrents, so I can't really try that . Although this is the way I'd prefer to do it. I like to test things out and if I like the software go back and buy it from the developer (because your right, we should always support those that we use and like). If you have thoughts of how to do this without using torrent please let me know.

Astraeasan, I went and found dxtory. I like the looks of it, but it didn't have a way to buy it in U.S. currency that I could find (only in Yen). It did have a download option, is that the full version (or demo)? Is there a cost?

You've used it, so I'm guessing you've found it to be reliable. Is the website and download trustworthy? (Did you get any addware, ect..)

Yennage, I agree that going back could greatly reduce things like "umm", but I'm honestly looking for a complete "live" recording option.

lofp, Good thoughts for sure, and I would ask to film before hand. Although I'm not looking to use this for recording others on our server really. I might do a walk through of my own build lands.

Thanks guys for your thoughts.

there is a demo function, just download the regular version and do not add activation, it will work as an demo version.
Buying dxtory works with paypal and that has an auto currency convert
The program is 39 euro's or around 50 dollars.
I found the demo to be trustworthy, I haven't bought the full version.

I find fraps very trustworthy and handy, as I use it quite a bit. But I havent yet tried it with a mic or audio input. It's definately worth a try
