My in-game name is Xegor, I'm from Quebec, I speak french AND english and I'm 21 years old. I'm pretty happy to see that there are other Quebecers in here.

For now, I'll be exploring for a bit to see what this little world looks like and then I'll probably register to become a builder (from what I understand, I need to do that in order to build my house?).

I was wondering if there was somekind of whitelist? Because I'm currently playing as a guest.

Welcome! Just joined a few days ago myself.

First you need to submit a Build Request.
Once you are accepted, you will essentially have an account on the server.
To start building on your own land, you need to submit a Land Claim (see the instructions in the sticky under that topic). The requests have to be manually approved, so it takes a little time (took mine a day or so).
