Hey guys it's that time again!,

As you're probably all aware, the Minecraft 1.2 update was released today which means that if you clicked Update, you'll get an "Outdated Server" error when you try and connect. Fortunately this can be easily rectified by rolling back to version 1.1 which I'll explain how to do (please note, this guide assumes you're using Windows or Mac)

Step 1: Download the 1.1 jar from here to ensure it was legit, I used my backup of the jar file (it's 100% vanilla) This means that if you're using a texture pack above 32x32 you'll need to either remove it or install the HD Texture fix (beyond the scope of this tut)

Step 2: Open up the %APPDATA% folder. You can do this by hitting Windows Key + R to bring up the Run box. Then simply type in %APPDATA% and click the Open button to get to the folder.

Step 3: In AppData you should see a folder at the top called .minecraft, double click it to open it. As a quick bit of info, this is where MC stores all your singleplayer saves etc. if you ever need access to them

Step 4: You should see a folder called bin, double click it to go into it (this is where the minecraft jars are stored).

Step 5: You should see a file in here called minecraft.jar (if you updated, this is the Minecraft 1.2 jar) rename it to something like minecraft 1.2 (alternatively you could just delete it, but renaming allows you to switch back at will)

Step 6: Copy the 1.1 jar you downloaded in step 1 into the bin folder.

Step 7: You should now be able to restart minecraft (Be sure to click Not Now if asked to update) and be able to connect to the server as normal.

OPTIONAL:
To switch back to 1.2 just go to the folder and rename minecraft.jar to minecraft 1.1 and then rename minecraft 1.2 back to just minecraft, then restart MC.

Instructions for Macs (Thanks to ekover97):

1.Download a copy of minecraft.jar here
2. Move that file to your desktop
3. Follow this path to get to your Minecraft files: Finder>(Your Username)>Library>Application Support>minecraft>bin NOTICE: If you have Mac OS X Lion, your library might be hidden.
4. Rename your current minecraft.jar to minecraft1-2.jar
5. Drag the new downloaded minecraft.jar into your bin folder.
6. Exit out of Finder, open your Minecraft, and it should work. To switch back, just name your minecraft.jar to minecraft1-0.jar and your minecraft1-2.jar to minecraft.jar, then run minecraft again. While you're doing all this, be sure to EXIT OUT of Minecraft.

Feel free to post any queries, I hope this helps you guys get back on the BEST Minecraft server! In case you're not already aware, Bukkit is now working directly with Mojang which *hopefully* means they'll have a build out for 1.2 a bit faster.

Ty yennage! Awesome for keeping up with the downgrades :P Work is appreciated!

Ok I updated to minecraft 1.2.3 for a look, that all went fine I then downloaded your link and swapped the jar files but there's a problem. When I open minecraft and log in to my account the next page that comes up is one saying; "Updating Minecraft" and it has a loading bar at the bottom that's frozen and says; "Done loading". I had no texture back before the update... so this shouldn't be the problem? This is also happening when I take the jar files out, and when I try to reset the jar files by using the browser version. Any ideas?

Try removing your current minecraft.jar, start up your client, select Force Update in options and then launch (this should get you a fresh 1.2 jar). Then, assuming Minecraft launches correctly, try giving the rollback another try.

Hope this helps.

Fixed! Thanks Yenn. I know what I was doing wrong the first time now aswell. I was re-naming the new minecraft.jar 1.1 so it wouldn't accept it. I just changed it back to minecraft and it was working.

Thanks for the help.
