So yeah now that the interstate is kinda complete I figured I'd post some mind boggling statistics like all massive projects have (you know like if you stacked every brick used to make x building then they would reach the moon etc etc) so here goes:

Based on my rough assumption that both the N-S and W-E interstates are 9000 blocks long...

There are 90,000 stone slabs and 36,000 pieces of "side" cobble in total (not including stairs)
When completed there will also be 36,000 pieces of obsidian
This means that roughly 1,969 stacks of cobblestone went into the interstate!
When completed there will also be about 563 stacks of obsidian!

To put this into perspective, if you wanted to buy all of this cobble in the shop it would cost you almost 10,000 caps.
However, if you wanted to buy all the obsidian at current prices it would cost you... 123,860 caps!

To put this total cost of roughly 133,860 caps into perspective, if you wanted to acquire all those caps instantly you would have to donate over 1,300 CAD!

If someone decided to grief the whole interstate it would take them 35 hours of constant mining just to remove the slabs and cobble.
If the same person decided to wait until the obsidian was added before griefing the whole thing it would take them 220 hours or over 9 days!

Even if the griefing was being carried out by a highly co-ordinated chain gang of 5 people it would still take 44 hours of constant mining

Now as for real world statistics, the interstate would be just over 11 miles (or 18km in metric) long in real life and so would take almost 3 hours to walk at an average pace.

However let's now put this in perspective for a third and final time by taking into account the total size of the 9000x9000 square the interstate covers...

The area the interstate covers contains (very) roughly 2,430,000,000 (2 billion, 430 million) natural (shop bought stuff not included) blocks meaning the interstate accounts for just 0.00006% of the total world volume.

So I hope this was at least mildly interesting :) also please bear in mind my maths could be entirely wrong.

You're forgetting the row of cobble that goes through the middle, so it's actually 54,000 not 36,000. So 2,250 stacks of cobble in total :D

...woah!

That's awesome, thanks for posting! I love doing this stuff in minecraft :D

tyvm seattle I was a bit scared this would get me ridiculed :) also edc I did consider counting the middle row (honestly I swear!) but it doesn't actually go along the whole length of the interstate so rather than guess I thought I'd just leave it out all together. Well noticed though

I would seriously be disappointed if anyone even considered ridicule! This is an incredible feat, and I tip my hat to everyone that built and placed those slabs! As a side note, we are not responsible for any carpal tunnel syndrome resulting from said feat! :D

Really? I'm pretty sure it does go the whole length as the rules from lofp for building the interstate where "just follow the middle row."

hey edc your not wrong thought if a landclaim owner comes to me and asks for a adjustment then some times we dont have a middle row.

as for the work done its mind blowing... I remeber when we had to calculate the amount of stone slabs... gods I was panicking.

Great job every one and Amazing job yen in getting all the stats lol. I like the hole griefing part. hahaha

Oh, thanks for the clarification.

What's even more amazing than the amount of materials used, is the time in which it was all done. I remember like the second day I was working on the east west interstate, and I came back the next day and it was basically done.

With everyone involved it didn't take long at all and was done within roughly 3 days and all that came at a price (for me anyway).
RSI is quite painful.
