This is going to sound really stupid, but I cannot figure out what happened. I deleted my downloads folder on my mac. Everything in that folder I had copied to new places. After deleting the folder, half the stuff on my hard drive was missing, some of it wasn't even downloaded. Does anyone have any idea why it did that? I moved everything from the trash back into my downloads folder but stuff is still missing.

I think I know what I did now. I feel so stupid. I must have deleted "All My Files" because thats what opens first when you open up finder. I must not have clicked on downloads before I deleted everything. All my files are still here, but now they're in downloads. Does anyone know if there is a way to restore previous file locations?

Is it too hard to have a "restore trash" button like windows? But nooo it has to be "put back" and I didn't know that so I drag everything into the downloads folder because thats where I thought it came from. Stupid macs *grumble grumble grumble*

This isn't the computers fault. And quite frankly, although I am a (self-proclaimed) Apple guru, I have no idea what you did here.

I can't make any sense of it either. How hard is it to go in your downloads folder, hit Command+A and drag it to the trash?

In OSX 10.7, finder opens up a location know as "all my files" which displays everything on your system. I must not have clicked the "downloads" folder on my sidebar correctly and accidentally deleted from "all my files". I wound up sorting all my files manually because I couldn't figure out how to undo what I did.
