Making a block portrait from an image file, any hints for that?

Do there exist pixel to block converters ? I've googled and found nothing useful so far.
Basicly i wish to create an image like this

from something like this

Any tips on how one would approach something like a project like that?

I would suggest either using the good old fashioned method of colouring in some graph paper, otherwise if you dont have access to it you could try http://minecraftstructureplanner.com/index.php/download/ although im not so sure if its any good.

if you use hi res images you will have to clean it up a bit but that site is a start

someone else showed me a program that will tell you the blocks you need in minecraft but i cant for the life of me remember

This seems to be the ticket! It automatically converts images to the wool pallet and gives you a list of required materials too! Guess its an alternative to the structural planner. not as robust though.

Go in to Microsoft paint and resize the image to whatever resolution u think would be easy enough to build.
