Tiggerxplur brought this to my attention, if you are running an X64 OS (a 64 bit os) you should grab the x64 version of the JRE, so far it has really reduced the crashyness.

step 1. quit minecraft. i know its hard, but do it.

step 2. uninstall old java (add remove programs > find java in the list > uninstall)

step 3. Click

step 4. install and junk

step 5. less crashy minecraft
 
What OS are you using? I don't have any crashes at all with the OpenJDK JRE rather than the Oracle/Sun equivalent, on Fedora GNU/Linux x86_64
 
this is for normal people running windows, not linux nerds =P
 
Shouldn't we already have the newest version of Java? Oh I forgot who ACTUALLY clicks the UPDATE NOW button?
