I was wondering how people manages to make a MineCraft LAN server.
Me and some of my classmates, would love to have a MC server up and running (since we are unable to log online and play MC due to "restrictions".)

And if possible I would like to have some of the functionality we got in our server. (./shop & cubid... protection thingey to mark our land)

Is it possible to host a MC LAN server from Windows 7 or would I need an different computer that runs Linux, etc.

I have tried running a private server following the instructions of MC website, with no success. @@

All help is appreciated.

you cant do lan or non lan without connecting to minecraft.net

you need authentication for any multiplayer... so multiplayer at school not gonna happen. as far as i know that is.

I'm not sure if you can bypass the login. There used to be an option not to authenticate, which allows anyone to join, but I'm not sure if that's an option now.

There's no reason you shouldn't be able to use any PC to run a minecraft server. Check your firewall rules maybe. Other than that, that's all the support I can give.

online mode = false will make it so it doesnt need authentication but if you wou dont connect to minecraft.net then your player name will be "player" so only 1 person would be able to connect

I've done LAN servers before (class experiments, co-op with brother)

Just download a cracked version of minecraft (Shhhh) which allows you to set a custom name upon startup and download minecraft server and set online mode = false

Then tell people to connect to your LAN IP and you're all set

I have a LAN server for me and my cousin to play on since he doesnt have minecraft. It works great running in offline mode, but his name is "Player" and the server can only have one player without a login.

see heres the issue guys. your trying to setup a minecraft server on a closed network. a school network most ports are blocked to and from games. so often time lan wont work either. most proxy's are blocked. i work at a school division. your lan would only work for say a month before its port is blocked as well.

Even though what fluffy is saying is right, where nearly everything is going to be blocked, I would try mineshafter just to see if that might work

I wonder, if you set the port to 80, if the traffic would be blocked. Maybe you could even set it through an ssh tunnel on port 80.

Cleared the mineshafter link, i dont like that they need you to ''LINK" your minecraft account with there site. Sounds phishy
