One of my turkeys went broody (surprise to me!) and sat on a nest of eggs. Well, this week some of them hatched. The problem with this is that the mama turkey (Miss Tina) had been sitting on chicken eggs as well as turkey eggs, and the chicken eggs hatched first, meaning she had one chick hatch, then left the rest of the eggs as duds.

Five of them weren't duds and suddenly we started finding babies in the nest, peeping and crying, with no mama turkey in sight. Two of them we didn't find until it was too late, but three we were able to bring into the house and put under a heat lamp, etc.

We have ChickiePoo (actual chicken chick), TurkeyPoo (legitimate Miss Tina baby), and TurkeyTwo. TurkeyTwo was a real mess when we found it (him?); I picked him up thinking he was already dead, and then he wiggled. We had to wash broken egg yolk off of him, and I'm pretty sure TT aspirated some of it since he'd had trouble breathing since we brought him inside. TurkeyTwo is probably not going to make it because he hasn't perked up like TurkeyPoo did.

Anyway, that's some of what's been keeping me busy.

Pictures for added bonus fluffy cuteness. Yes that is ChickiePoo on my shoulder.
