Optimize bandwidth usage with Squid Cache!

I dont know how many people would find this useful but I thought I would post this neat software I started using last month.

It is called Squid cache (http://www.squid-cache.org/) and you can install it on your computer and it works as a proxy server that cache's content that you use alot, so that your internet usage gets optimized, and you use less bandwidth. You can connect all your devices to the proxy server instead of your router. At my parent's house where 6 people are currently living (I have alot of younger siblings) it lowered their monthly usage by 60gb from the average with only a 10gb cache.

I highly recommend this software to anyone who pays alot for their internet because they go over, its worth a try, and its free (open source).

My parents have a 150gb limit which is one of the highest packages with Rogers, but every gb you go over is 2.50$ lol. I thought it was bad in the the UK too, but I guess you are telling me otherwise

Actually it might be 1.50 but its still pretty bad.

All the packages I've ever had are unlimited. Most have fair usage policies but they don't charge you extra.

Unlimited plans aren't available in Canada unless you are willing to pay around $1200 a month for corporate internet or go with a pokey little wireless provider a friend uses that only gives you 2Mbps.

The only time I've run into issues is when I grabbed a season of HD shows for my sisters Christmas present, otherwise I stay under the cap.

I suppose, but as we all know the internet in the UK sucks!

Haha opposite here, I get great speeds + some weird burst thing where you get a massive download speed for the first minute of downloading, which makes it so easy to hit my cap when everything you do is in high quality by default.
