I'm not sure if there is an excepted term for this practice, but it's something that should probably be discussed... I'm going to call it Map Blazing.

When someone just goes off on their lonesome and generates lots of new land for no good "raisin", doesn't that put a significant strain on the server, a strain that the server will likely have to live with as long as that world is active?

Yes, it sucks. I don't want to setup borders right now so there's nothing I can do to stop people from wondering.

The map increases in size signifincatly when new land is explored which means longer backup and restore times. It also throws my map rendering coordinates off for the images on the site. However, when new land is generated it will generate with the halloween updates. I think it would be best to make a square out of the the world we have now by exploring the land and following a the map.

Let's remind new people or anyone not already aware that wondering around is not good. The map is already huge and there's lots of space that could be filled in.

I am sorry about that, we kinda got carried away with that trek. Didn't think about it until I logged off.

As for squaring it out, do you want to do it to the full extent of our journey north?

We could also look into resizing options, I think there is some software out there to shrink the map to a reasonable size.

That looks promising, I tested on a SMP map I have and it did load so we maybe able to shrink the map a bit.

No worries. I tried the mapdeleter and the other map editors, no luck. The map is too big to load on the software. I even copied the map to a powerful computer to try and it did the same thing.

Ya, let's square it out from there. I have a feeling the map could triple in size, but map size shouldn't stop us, we gotta have a big world! Binkula was thinking fences. It would take a long time but if everyone helped build fences and signs, with us supplying them, we could get it done quick. That puts us back in the trust situation and there's nothing stopping someone from wondering off making it big again, which means we would need to revert.

Maybe better border mods will come out. :(

Fences would be easier to do with a map editing software

No map editor will load the map. Go ahead and try on your computer if you want. The maps to big to edit.

Filling it out as it is would probably be size prohibitive as well, damn, how big a level we talking in MB right now?

220mb. I'm not giving up on map editors yet. I'll give that another try.
