The solar system build project

I got schematica working, but spc on the other hand is a bitch to install. If you want to participate in the building of these planets I highly recommend that you get schematica installed. mk just sent me the schematic he's using via email and I loaded it into my shcematics folder and that works just fine.

well, my "sidewalk chalk art" session is now done in pve i think... i've added a diagonal 50 block radius ring to finish it.

the last ring was created using the //hsphere command, then working the diagonal ring from that using the brush tools, and regular block breaking and setting.

i kept the same center block as the first plans have, so the two plans can be done together.

I'd love to move into build world now and do this solar system thing, and I'm willing to produce the plans for the initial spheres and orbit rings.

I love the angular ring, it really puts the icing on the cake!

Here are some screens of a schematic with the inner planets and orbit rings:

The orbit rings are single strand of glass, the planets are one block smaller than finished size in stone, so they can then be covered with final coloured blocks....

Some feedback would be good as to how this looks. I am liking the orbit rings, which will tone down alot once done in glass.

i built the orbit of mercury, and the equator of mercury this morning. Also, there is a small platform in the plan that sits directly above spawn, to help orient the plans. Here are screenshots of how that looks:

I'll let this build sit for now until there is some feedback on how it looks etc.
I'm now thinking that the full orbit rings look good, but I want to try taking out every other glass block, so it's like a dotted line.

2 more screens from this morning
equator of earth now in place!

If anyone would like to help with this build, please let me know. It's just now starting to become lonely...
contact me in game or pm on the website, I will get you set up with schematics, I can also help with loading the schematica mod.

Here is a screenshot from the single player world I'm using to create the planets, this shows the block count for jupiter:

here is pluto... and the block count of saturn, neptune, uranus, and pluto

mercury complete, thx mavaje, venus is getting a skin next.
white stained clay, lightgray stained clay....

Wow awesome stuff! I'm a bit short on time for heavy projects at the moment in Minecraft so I don't know if I can help out with building but if you guys want some stained clay or whatever let me know and I'll setup a chest of something for you

I'm starting to get drawn into this project again, I've been thinking about it and looking at how to proceed if we want more of this build.
I removed the glass blocks from the orbit rings and changed them to light blue glass to see if that would be more subtle.

If anyone would like to help with this, let me know. Or if you think it sucks or whatever, let me know that as well. it's still not a big job to remove the work done so far.
The next step outwards would be the asteroid belt, which i think could make a good community build where players could create some mini worlds on the bigger asteroids.

Hello everyone,
I've moved this topic into the community talk section to get some more feedback on the project, and also to give people more information. Now that the inner planets are finished, I'd like to open the project to the community for ideas/help etc.
Next phase of this build will be the asteroid belt, starting with a large ring of stone, then break the ring into floating chunks of stone/ice/etc...

Hello again,

The ring has been built now to guide the asteroid belt, and a region has been created for permissions.
If you would like to work on this project, let me know ingame and I'll add you to the region.

The look I'm going for with the asteroid belt is many small objects floating in an orbit.
The guideline I'm working with is "not more than 7 blocks in size, and not more than ten blocks away from the orbit ring". The asteroids do not have to be round, but please no square boxes!
As far as materials go, generally speaking I'll be using stone and ice blocks, but I'm fine with almost anything, including a few rainbow asteroids as jennythegreat has mentioned ingame.

Please join on this build, I think it would be fun if everyone built at least one asteroid up there, and put a sign on top with name etc.

cheers!

*edit* to reach this site, do /warp build and fly up, look for the stone ring outside the planets above build spawn.

more screens from today.
please come on down and build and asteroid people!

Last call for asteroids!!!
I'd like to close this part of the solar system build off and move on to finishing up the planets.

Jupiter now has the stone shell done, and the skin is started, here is the reference image i'm using for coloring jupiter:

Hey! What a coincidence!
