Now our server uses a currency system to allow trading with admins and other players. The currency we will use is eggs (dropped from chickens), so start saving up and/or creating chicken farms. You can trade eggs in for items or vise versa, but each item has its own cost in eggs. While we are currently still trying to decide the value of each item, feel free to post your ideas. Costs will be based on both usefulness and rarity, and may fluctuate from time to time (ie. if the bank fills up with cobblestone, then cobble will become cheaper).

Remember, a new rule here is that you must trade eggs with admins if you want them to spawn items for you.

We have had this idea for a while now, we have a Bank and a vault in place to serve the citizens of MinecraftAddicts better, our initial plans are:
1 stack of cobble for 1 egg, 2 stacks of dirt for 1 egg, then eggs can be traded for other items such as diamond blocks, iron blocks, wool and glass,

64 Cobblestones (1 stack) = 1 egg
32 Smoothstones = 1 egg
3 Iron Blocks = 1 egg
1 Diamond Block = 1 egg
128 Dirt = 1 egg
3 Wool = 1 egg
20 glass = 1 egg

Feel free to give suggestions or add items into the currency system, we would like eggs to be the dominant currency here since it would make life a lot easier, let it be transactions or item management.

What's the conversion from eggs to mushrooms? I've got a whole pile from dungeon diving. I was hoping they would win the currency war....

The initial goal of this idea is to spread items evenly among players, some players might have 50 stacks of cobblestone from doing landscaping, but he didnt not want to dig super deep again just for the small amount of iron he might find, so he can sell his cobble for some iron. If an item is of no use to most people, then the bank would not accept it since it is of low practical value.

right now I think we can only choose value based on usability. Does anyone have a chart or resource that explains how rare/common materials are in relation to each other?

Sounds like an excellent idea!

Leather could also be used, saddles as well (VERY RARE in SMP)

Quick look can't find one. But what I'm seeing is people running inventory on their world and making simple calculations to find how rare the item is in relation to world. I can do that. Give me a minute.

Oh i may skew that stat, I've got 30 of them in my inventory. I just gathered them all from my chests.

Things to add to the list:

Obsidian
Gold
Bricks
Jukebox
Records
Saddles
Railroad tracks
Wood (logs and lumber)
Diamond tools
Buckets
Gravel
Sand
Glass
Flint
Coal
Saplings
Reeds
Books
Swampy Cobblestone
Halfstones (halfsteps)
Redstone

and possibly leaves.

Oh and whoever thought of making eggs the currency, you are a genius. I've been on several servers were gold is the currency, and it just didn't work out.

I didn't think of the eggs.

There's also several currency mods. There's nothing wrong with them but it obviously limits what you can do. Having a more trusted system built off our own interpretation makes much more sense.

Once we've got a full list of items and trade value, I'll add a currency/bank section to the site. I should also add a section that explains what we do and how the server works. Basically a help section but I need a better name.

Smoothstone transaction last night was great, saved me 30 minutes tending ovens and added an additional 6 layers to my cube.

One problem I have had was with a transaction of 2 'metric shit tons' of cobblestone. Transporting that is a pain so there might be a need to limit the amount of stacks per admin, just for the sake of sanity. I think it reasonable to set this limit at what you can carry per admin per day.
