Hey guys, it's been way too long since I cooked anything that made me feel unwell or brought a disgusted look to my face so a couple of weeks back I decided to do a Canadian style dinner as a sorta follow up to the Canadian Breakfast I did forever ago... Anyway *hopefully* I'll be able to get another meal done next week!
Step 1 -- Assemble the ingredients, I bought these fresh on a day trip to Vancouver to ensure authenticity (yeah they have Tesco there too!)
From left there's Brother's Toffee Apple Cider, Generic Green Beans, Walkers Ready Salted Crisps (bustin' out all the brands), Smoked Streaky Bacon and Trout Fillets!!!
Step 2 -- Marinate? your bacon in the glory of Brother's toffee apple cider:
Protip: According to the bottle toffee apple cider is an acquired test, that means acquire it NOW!
Step 3 -- Prepare your pans:
Protip: Don't try and rock more than 1 or 2 pans if you're a novice, seriously, a 3 pan rig is for the pros guys.
Step 4 -- Toss the streaky bacon into the pan at a freaky angle!
Protip: Motion blur makes any picture look more dynamic! It totally doesn't mean you just had a shaky hand!
Step 5 -- Whack in the excess cider (none to waste!)
Protip: The weird mix of sickly sweet cider, bacon fat and oil can be... Overpowering...
Step 6 -- Add in your freshly caught Canadian trout!
Protip: Use your hand to determine the temperature and cooking time instead of wasting your time looking at the food itself!
Step 7 -- Toss your freshly picked Vancouver green beans into your boiling water:
Protip: Always add the ingredient that's going to take ages to cook right as all your other stuff is almost done!
Step 8 -- Crush the crisps onto the fish:
Protip: Add the crisps right on top of the juices so that they go nice and soggy
Step 9 -- Assemble your epic dinner:
Protip: Be afraid that the fish will be horrible so place your favourite ingredient (obviously the bacon!) separately so it doesn't get ruined!
Well all in all it was pretty tasty, in fact what was most surprising was that I actually enjoyed the fish much more than the bacon which was ruined by cider that was far too sweet for it... Also because I put them in far too late on in the process, the green beans were badly undercooked, like to the extent where I'm pretty sure I could have replanted them and grown a plant with them...
Suggestions are ALWAYS welcome
