META-INF is something that is supposed to be there. Im not sure if its needed and I have no clue what it does. I do know you need to delete it to install modloader.

I believe META-INF is what checks the integrity of the jar, making sure that it's vanilla and such. Don't quote me though

I just registered to say I am also encountering a black screen after rolling back with your Mac .jar. I get past the update screen and it blacks before the Mojang splash screen.

I have no mods installed past a character skin, any ideas? My server admin is out of town for a week or so and I stupidly updated to 1.8 without thinking first.

type 'minecraft rollback 1.8' and your forums are the top hit. There is no other pertinent info anywhere on how to reliably rollback from the newest version of Minecraft, which is the only reason I came here to bother you folks.

Quaz are you using a texturepack with a resolution higher than 32x32? If so, Minecraft will blackscreen crash unless you install the HD texture fix (this is because the jar is basically vanilla)

The server relies on plugins to keep your builds safe etc. however, these have to be updated with every new version of minecraft, as you can imagine, this takes time to complete and sadly theres no accurate way for us to predict when all the plugins will be updated but rest assured, as soon as they're all ready, and stable, we'll be updating.

Any idea how long it'll take? Cause I hope it'll take longer than it take for Notch to fix 1.8 so it runs on Leopard too, instead of forcing us to buy Snow Leopard, or a new computer altogether.

From previous experiences it could take anywhere from a week to over a month.
Bukkit still haven't released a recommended build, and then we still need to wait on the plugin developers to get everything sorted at their end.

Anything can happen, we just don't know when we'll be able to update.

Well im new and i never played the server but i have been looking at some of the screenshot and i want to play but for some reason whenever i install the minecraft.jar you give me It wont work! it will say updating minecraft but it just zips past that and stops at done loading if any of you can help me out here that would really be cool Thanks ! i have also seen that some other people have been having this problem maybe you should make a video tut on how to install it correctly instead of just letting them read it

Im pretty sure that file is a zipped, did you unzip it? I know I have had that problem in the past.
