1.5 Crashing

I haven't been able to play lately due to minecraft freezing then crashing...
After about 3-5 min in-game everything will freeze for 30 sec, then crash to desktop.

Looking around, there seems to be a few instances that cause this but I haven't found a working solution yet.

Only mod I was running was Zan's Minimap installed with ModLoader...

What I've tried:
- Drivers are all up-to-date.
- Deleted my .minecraft folder and re-installed a fresh copy
- Tried all combinations of video settings (set to lowest, highest & various in-between)

Any ideas?

Very odd, this was happening to me yesterday and i just got a clean minecraft.jar but it seems you've already tried that.
Only thing you haven't said was trying a fresh install of java, give that a go.

does it give you an error when it crashes. If it does, please post it here.

Uninstall java completely, if you are running a 64 bit os be sure to get the 64 bit version of Java.

if he had no problems with 1.5, most likely it will not be the issue.

I did a fresh install of Java, and that seems to have fixed it for now
