best way to get wool?

my new project requires lots of wool. i will probably need a couple thousand white wool and hundreds of coloured.

what is the cheapest and fastest way to do this? is it better to collect white wool and then purchase the dye? should i just chase sheep and squid around for hours?

i dont wanna burn all my caps just to make a floor of a building.

Tigger's hunting grounds used to be excellent for this but since 1.6 its become MUCH harder.

If you have the dyes, dye the sheep before sheering it. You can get up to 3 of the wool in question.

yeah ive noticed that mobs are way less frequent now. maybe the price of wool and dyes should be lowered.

your best bet, be online at a non-peak hour so you can hog most of the mobs
then go around with dye in your hand and hit sheep with the dye before shearing them
That is how I used to do it, but at tigger's grounds
almost impossible these days

I do not think it is the fact that animals are spawning less, but the server has become more popular. I find weekday mornings very low in player count.

I was gabbing on at this the moment the update started. I wanted to hunt sheep and do exactly what Cpt mentioned. Took me around a whole week to get around 5 stacks of wool from them alone. Now I'm in the caps market buying what I would potentially need. An expencive venture mind you.

Notch had to botch this up at the right time when I wanted wool from sheep.

all i have to say is.... Monopoly Board. Notch really hurt my feelings when he fixed the sheep.

What I do is I ALWAYS hit sheep as soon as I see them, so that I always have quite a lot of wool saved up if I'd need it.
