My minecraft has been really slow recently. (also before launcher update) And I get the "End of Stream" error, I can't connect to MP servers. Help :(
 
Before that I had it, along with that my minecraft lags like hell sometimes. I heard downgrading java worked. Does anyone know a good version?
 
End of Stream is an exception thrown when your connection is reset. There could be numerous reasons why this is happening.

It depends on what operating system you are using. OpenJDK works great for me, but I don't think it's available for windows or OSX.
 
When I get the end of stream thing, I just close out minecraft and relaunch it.

It is usually because the minecraft.net is down though.
