Hey guys,

As you're probably all aware, the full version of Minecraft 1.8 was released today which means that if you clicked Update, you'll get an "Outdated Server" error when you try and connect. Fortunately this can be easily rectified by rolling back to version 1.7_3 which I'll explain how to do (please note, this guide assumes you're using Windows or Mac)

Step 1: Download the 1.7_3 jar from here to ensure it was legit, I used my copy of the jar file (it's 100% vanilla apart from Enhanced Chat) This means that if you're using a texture pack above 32x32 you'll need to either remove it or install the HD Texture fix (beyond the scope of this tut)

Step 2: Open up the %APPDATA% folder. You can do this by hitting Windows key + R to bring up the Run box. Then simply type in %APPDATA% and click the Open button to get to the folder.

Step 3: In AppData you should see a folder at the top called .minecraft, double click it to open it. As a quick bit of info, this is where MC stores all your singleplayer saves etc. if you ever need access to them

Step 4: You should see a folder called bin, double click it to go into it (this is where the minecraft jars are stored).

Step 5: You should see a file in here called minecraft.jar (if you updated, this is the Minecraft 1.8 jar) rename it to something like minecraft 1.8 (alternatively you could just delete it, but renaming allows you to switch back)

Step 6: Copy the 1.7_3 jar you downloaded in step 1 into the bin folder.

Step 7: You should now be able to restart minecraft (Be sure to click Not Now if asked to update) and be able to connect to the server as normal.

OPTIONAL:
To switch back to 1.8 just go to the folder and rename minecraft.jar to minecraft 1.7 and then rename minecraft 1.8 back to just minecraft, then restart MC.

Instructions for Macs (Thanks to ekover97):

1.Download a copy of minecraft.jar here
2. Move that file to your desktop
3. Follow this path to get to your Minecraft files: Finder>(Your Username)>Library>Application Support>minecraft>bin NOTICE: If you have Mac OS X Lion, your library might be hidden.
4. Rename your current minecraft.jar to minecraft1-8.jar
5. Drag the new downloaded minecraft.jar into your bin folder.
6. Exit out of Finder, open your Minecraft, and it should work. To switch back, just name your minecraft.jar to minecraft1-7.jar and your minecraft1-8.jar to minecraft.jar, then run minecraft again. While you're doing all this, be sure to EXIT OUT of Minecraft.

Feel free to post any queries, I hope this helps you guys get back on the BEST Minecraft server!

Hmm strange do you get past the Mojang logo or does it blackscreen when you try and join the server? I've just ran a quick test and it appears to be working

a thankyou too, but i just apear to get a blackscreen when replacing the 1.8 with your jar o.O

That could be a texture pack problem. If yen's jar is as vanilla as he says, then it doesn't have HD texture fix, so any texture pack over 32x in your texture pack folder would blackscreen you.

ok godspeedz, that could be it, cus im runnin the misa 1.8 (pre) so il just have to take it out and put it in again after i rolled back to 1.7 (ofcours im gonna put the misa 1.7 version in again) :P lets c if it works

ok sry if your consider this spam, but i just wanted to say you it works. Yen and Godspeedz for el presidente! :D :P

Glad to hear it worked dude, I've updated my post to avoid any confusion (totally forgot about stuff like HD Texture fix, my bad)

yeah me too obviously ^^ but now i have the problem that it says "bad login". I currently have no textpacks installed (not even in texture pack folder) and when i looked in your minecraft .jar, there also wasnt a META INF folder. I have no mods install since i didnt bother reinstalling loads of mods after 1.8 anyway. i realy dunno whats wrong. help.......pls :/

It seems the server is practically empty so I'm assuming there's issues with minecraft's general login.

Dont worry galaxie, im not using yens jar and it isnt working for me either. So it cant be because of that.

oh damn i wrote a realy realy long reply about this but obviously it didnt post it somehow. yes i do although i have no textpacks or mods installed. META INF is deleted too so i have no clue what might be going wrong

META-INF is something that is supposed to be there. Im not sure if its needed and I have no clue what it does. I do know you need to delete it to install modloader.

FOR PEOPLE ON MACS:
1.Download a copy of minecraft.jar (1.7.3) here! (Thanks Yen)
2. Move that file to your desktop
3. Follow this path to get to your Minecraft files: Finder>(Your Username)>Library>Application Support>minecraft>bin NOTICE: If you have Mac OS X Lion, your library might be hidden. To make it permanently visible in Finder, go here and read how ;)

Added to the original post, thanks a bunch ekover!

yeah refined, i had it too but it seemed to just be a matter of time. i tried it again later, even with HD textpack active and it suddenly worked. if i remember right i saw you too yesterday so it has to have worked for both of us :)

Excellent! I'll get around to doing that after I have my fun with the new blocks in single player... Though I still question: Why not just update the server?
