I was just thinking, what about a region dedicated to pvp battles, small and large scale?
Only a few projects would be approved to be built inside the region, and nobody else can build there.
You can only fight unless you're a builder for the pvp region.

This would make for some cool and epic battles, like storming a castle, beach or whatever with half the people and the other half defending.

Ofc it'd only work if there's quite a lot of us online, but we could organize a specific date, right?

So it'd basically be bow and arrow and sword fighting, but if possible, lava, drowning, and cacti should do damage as well. Maybe falling damage could be adjusted to being present, but not too much.

This would make for some very epic fighting without the chance of someone griefing the battlefield.

[edit] Also, no mobs.

so a pvp arena? i believe we have something in the works for that however we have yet to implement it. because of the low user count we may be putting that off till after final release.

No, not an arena, a genuine battlefield.
Actual castles made for battle, actual cliffs and beaches prepared for combat.

Not a smallscale area which is walled off. Altho we would have to mark the borders...

You do realize the bigger the field is, the farther the distance between you and an enemy, the less combat, and the less fun there is, right?

Idk just yet... it's an idea... like I said, it'd be more open, but obviously not too big...
I was think of something for an objective... Maybe a switch that turns on redstone torches to announce the defeat of the defenders?
You'd have to defend the switch, and the attackers would have to activate it. This would focus combat a bit more. There would have to be multiple entrances to get around the castle/base/defenders side thing.

Radical thought: maybe we could get some pistons to open certain doors/hallways for when there's more people playing or less people playing. More people = more paths, less people = less paths. You'd be able to switch between about 3 levels of access from a control room only accesible via a door with a password.

I know pistons aren't allowed, but since this would be a region where you can only build with rare permission, I don't think the dupe glitch would be applicable here. Maybe Jangles or Static could place the pistons, all we then need to do is wire them.

As for where to put it... Maybe a secluded area in the outlands? Just sayin... lots of land out there...

I like the idea behind it. It has good potential. I suppose it can maybe go into the box o tricks for possible future use. At current we do have a pvp arena plan. This may be a future plan once that is rolled out and we have a stronger user base. But not a current project we could implement easily here. Yet.

It will be on my list of things to possibly explore and maybe approve with the operators.

I really like the sound of this, very cool! Lets just hope the numbers will be back after update and release, then we can do battle, could just call it "Battle Region" V Cool!;)

I don't think Minecraft is really a platform in which you can have battles. For one thing, there would never be enough players on to make it epic... and as said above, the bigger the distance the less fighting. Essentially in the game we can only have hand-to-hand and short range arrows.

Not to mention the outlands is anything goes, so the landscape and structures would get absolutely raped unless they're guarded 24/7 and really... nobody has the time to commit to that.

I think you idea would work ONLY IF there was a mod to allow stationary weapons and beefed up handheld weapons / guns. I just don't think it would work out very well in Minecraft.

I don't mean to shoot down your idea... It is a good one and the concept of it is exciting. It would be fun to storm a castle and defend your territory... There just isn't enough tools to make it worth while. I suppose structures could be build / finalized and locked so they couldn't be destroyed... but still.

Any remote possibility of this working would have to be small scale... Perhaps an underground tunnel network with chambers as opposed to above ground... Just my thoughts. :)

There.
If you need more clarification, please read before you ask.

I wouldn't think the structures would have to be huge, or that spread out. You could just make a half dozen buildings in a space the size of my land claim (something like 400 by 300 squares), say a small 100 by 100 castle, a 100 by 150 temple, maybe 3 or 4 houses spread out and yeah, some of your underground catacombs idea would be awesome too.
If you keep the buildings small enough, and don't use the whole battleground everytime, you'd only need like a dozen or so people to fight, at which point all you would have to do is organize a weekend brawl every now and then. You have enough people on MCA as is, things just need to be organized for this to work.

The only real problem I see, is getting the buildings to be indestructible by anyone once they're built; though I'm sure the mods already know how to do that.

Anthrax, you can't build or edit in a region you have no permission in. So all we need is a small region for the battlefield.

as for a new idea for an objective: we could steal the idea from the superhostile series from vech (linky here). He uses wool blocks as objectives. Obviously we wouldn't use woolblocks, but things like: a mob spawner, double half slab blocks. These have to be collected by the attackers and put in their own chest, where it will be safe, because defenders shouldn't be able to open that one chest. The blocks that have to be collected are spread out on a (small or large) battlefield and have to be found by the attackers and defended (by traps and such, maybe enable pistons for traps there) by the defenders.

Obsidian is ugly, takes ages to modify and hasn't really got the feel for a castle or whatever we're going to build.
People would just grief around the buildings, removing dirt, placing lava and water...
