Hey guys, me and a group of friends were out adventuring in wilderness when I decided to make a platform really high up in the air. It became a sort of arena where the goal was to knock your enemy off into the water below. We had a blast, and played on it for hours.
After this, we decided that we should make a more fancy, none cobble arena in build. After an hour of mining for stone bricks and shearing sheep for wool, we got to work. We completed the arena in about an hour, since we were about 6 people gathering resources and building.
So this is how we made the arena work, there are four teams. Blue, Green, red and yellow, each team starts on there respective coloured area. After a countdown of 3,2,1 the players try to hit there opponents into the holes so that they fall into a pool of water below. In the spectator area, players watching can pull levers which sends water down below, possibly helping or pushing off players in the arena.
The game ends once only team stands. The players left on this team each get 5 points.Once a player reaches 25 points, he is added to the leader board at the top of the spectator area. If a player reaches 100 points, we will try are hardest to give them an iron chest-plate, and if they reach 250 points (probably wont
) they get a pumpkin on there heads.
(note: For simplicity we would enforce people to always play on the same team or colour, or they would only get points for winning if they were playing for the team they chose at the start.)
The biggest problems we could have are: People bringing swords and armour into the arena, people killing other players in the arena, spectators being able to fight eachother and finally where to put the arena.
I believe that it would be hard for the server to make a plugin to help with this, so that's out of the question. I believe the best way we could stop people from bringing in armour and swords would be disqualification, or temp-banned from the arena for a certain amount of time. Same here with killing.
Secondly, how can the players hit eachother off, without the spectators being able to fight eachother as they watch? Factions works in 16x16 chunks, and its hard to circle the arena in safezone without it entering the arena and vice versa with a warzone entering the spectator zone. I think the best way of fixing this is having a pvp dedicated zone in build, which would also solve the problem of people in the same faction not being able to fight.

The coords for the arena are x: -2014 y:134 z:4078 (its in rivers if that helps) I will make a hole in the roof for you to get in!
