Blame that fatty Notch, he took your money and went on a buffet vacation. That's where you goto a different buffet everyday in a different country.

/Yes I just made that up.

Yea minecraft.net sucks. All of the server got kicked except 3. I think the need a real I.T. guy on there team that should anticipate this stuff. But alas no one listens to the tech community when notch is in charge. He's all art design. He's not function and reliability.

I love how people talk as if they have the slightest clue of what's going on over at Mojang. For all we know, there was a provider-side scheduled maintenance window that wasn't relayed to the public (or had more of an impact than assumed). I have more stories about these sorts of things than you'd have time to listen to. I would also like to meet one of these psychic I.T guys Fluffy.

And this provider-side maintenance happens every week-end when the most amount of people want to login? Something like this happens every weekend and has been happening since 1.2 or maybe even earlier.

I don't work for Mojang, so I really don't know what the deal is. I don't know what their growth metrics are or what their workflow looks like in terms of expanding/maintaining services. For all we know, they've got some sort of automatic updates happening. I'm speaking more to people bitching and complaining about what Notch is/isn't doing as if they work next to him and don't agree with his methods.

While I agree that people assume too much of mojang/notch but when one pays for a product it is assumed that one will be able to use this product wheneverone wishes. Having to connect through their web servers before I can play multiplayer is fine, I understand they have to protect their product some how but if you're going to take this DRM type route you should at least make sure it works properly.

Also don't get my wrong I'm not trying to argue with you, just trying to play devil's advocate here.

Minecraft.net down: Forever alone.
Skellys mobbing you in outlands: Forever a bone.
Regional rules say no cobble construction: Forever cook stone.
Trying to assemble song with note blocks by ear: Forever wrong tone.
Can't crouch low enough to crawl under 1 block high spaces: Forever no prone.
Standing around waiting to harvest crops and trees: Forever ungrown.
Zombies spawning in open area behind your wall: Forever a moan.
Takes 2 weeks for your land claim applications to be approved: Forever wrong zone.

You make a great point, but I'm sympathetic. He had to make split decisions because he became god overnight. Multiplayer is also down on the priority list, because single player will make more sales on shelves. I wouldn't be surprised if multiplayer in general got worse over time, because we're dependent on new versions to support new OS's. We're lucky this is open source, but I think Notch will eventually completely let go of Multiplayer, and let the community run in. Just like Valve Half-Life, but this is definitely not a half-life engine, so I cross my fingers for solid releases.
