I was building underground when I noticed there was an unusually large amount of bright light.
Now, it wasn't the usual torch light which is bright yellow and turns orange at the ends. This was a pale white light that had no source and covered the cave.
I had limo check it out, but we couldn't figure it out.

Eventually the light died down a lot

I saw this, too. It is just totally random. Sometimes it can happen if you recently put a torch there and took it down. Would still shine as it is still there. Also, there could be lava nearby, IIRC.

Minecraft is full of bugs, it'll go away when a block update occurs in that area

I did check it out twice. It was pitch black to me, and not as bright as in the screenshots.
