Minecraft Beta was released minutes ago!

* Working server-side inventory! Finally! (And as a result of that, a whole pile of bugs and issues got fixed)
* Made SMP servers save chunks way less often in most cases. Chunks don’t resave if they got saved in the last 30 seconds
* Moving too far away from a container, or having it blow up, closes the inventory screen
* Fixed /kill
* Introduced leaf decay again. It acts differently from before
* You can now throw eggs
* On a whim, added super exclusive clan cloaks for Mojang Employees
* .. and something else, which is even more rare (from notch, who knows!?)

Here we go again with another round of mod patching and bug reporting. I've run a backup on all data just incase. Expect the next few days to be wonky. Hopefully not so much.

FYI - Hey0 Mod is the guts of the server. The developer for Hey0 mod has told everyone he won't have the update available until the 24th. We are running Alpha. Client 1.2.6 is required.

Fluffy, not sure what's going on. I usually crash when I look at a big fire.

Massive fires won't cause server lag, but it will make your computer work 100 times harder if you're looking at it. Lots of TNT use also causes client side issues but feel free to play around it with.

I crash because i am near lava now, sory i started some fires at first maby that is it

i may of lit some fires... nothing major.. just lit the bank on fire, and maybe the steak house, oh and a bit of the hotel oh and then there was that house anyways wish i had some gunpowder.

the other thing is when someone says they have a backup and no mods... everyones inner greifer comes out to play

No worries about the fires. We're still in limp mode until hmod is updated. Until then, it's an open world with no boundries. Everything will be reverted. I've got monitors all over to tell me when hmod gets updated. Ok, just one, http://www.ishmodupdated.com/. It pings the hmod repo and checks for updates every 5 seconds. I'm also watching the thread and other repo's from people attempting to make it work.

On another note, the server took 12 connections this evening. The Intel e6850 (3.0ghz, fsb 1333mhz) maintained just < 20% used. 2.6gb/4gb ram is dedidcated at 0 connections and 12 connections increased to 2.8gb used. That's about 200mb for 10 people and CPU doesn't worry me at all. I think we could push 50. maybe :).

I believe fires are client side causing your gfx card or cpu to konk. Could be wrong. The server had no spikes all night.

I'd say lets start with lower numbers and slowly work the way up to its potential limits. 12 connections used 20%, but 50 connections could be too much for the CPU. Even if you look at FPShooters and their servers. Common number of people would be 32 connections for the server to handle on a decent level. For a game as minecraft...well we will see.

Indeed, we shall see!

FYI: I reverted this morning but no hey0 update yet.

With the hardware we have, any reason we couldn't run a vanilla grief server alongside the main server? We seem to have the horsepower, as long as we could limit the processing power the grief server gets.

Not necessarily. The java app reserves memory and it needs a minimum of about 2gb. Running another server means I need to dedicate more ram to it and we'd be pushing the boundries for something we wouldn't use often.

I can't see a good enough reason to bother with another server, unless it's a sandbox or something.

I think 1 server would be best but like the two of you have been talking about diffrent builder "levels" would be a great idea

as for the fires I know that having a texture pack on will effect this as well as its def only client side... the server might get a little hit the moment it burns (taken the changes into effect) but after the burn then its all on the client.

and yah good luck working out the kinks.

Someone just attempted to fix hey0 mod. I just updated the server and it's working. There will be bugs!
