I added a plugin to hook IRC into minecraft. I'm hosting the IRC channel on freenode.

Server: irc.freenode.net
Channel: #theaddicts

To chat:
<ircusername>: .say hello

make sure the period is before say. The minecraft bot manages incoming messages from the server.

If you can't run minecraft or just want to chat it works great. You don't need to be a registered minecraft user to chat, so that's kind of cool.
