If you have not hear about SOPA.

Notch posted on his twitter yesterday that they will be taking down Mojang.com as well as Minecraft.net to protest SOPA.

This doesn't allow people to buy the game then. This makes no sense.

It makes it like after years of SOPA, but only for a while.

People ask why the site is down, they read about SOPA and instantly hate it.

Profit.

Im just hoping more sites do this so that everyone who somehow failed to see SOPA will know about it

if minecraft.net is down, you wont be able to get onto the server

I don't think this will affect the servers. The may just put up like a SOPA thing instead of the actual minecraft.net. That is what I think.

They should replace everyone's skin with it saying "CENSORED" on every limb because many players do have character skins from movies, games, TV, etc just to help send the message, even if they dont see the minecraft site.

That might just be awesome!

So, I'm just trying to understand this SOPA act.

Basically, ANY use of images or footage of game... anything that shows content from a game or takes a recognizable image from an I.P. like say my character having a skin of Indiana Jones could be seen as CopyRight Infringment?
So, like 90% of youtube has to be censored unless "legal permission" is given to allow I.P. to be publicly used.

Any torrent activity, sharing of files, music, images could/would be seen as infringment and such sites/services seen allowing this activity could be shut down by the Federal Government? or... Blocked if they are hosted in other countries.

I assume this bill only effects anything hosted or viewed/retrieved within the United States yes?
Oh but I guess that domain registry will allow the US to rape ANYONE regardless where they live/operate their server.

Is that relatively accurate? How else would this change our lives?
It wouldn't surprise me if Harper was working on his own law to intermingle with SOPA.

It affects people outside of the US too. Any site that has copyright material that isn't theirs and is hosted or based in the US can be shut down. Plus, you can't put links to any sites that may infringe copyrights such as youtube, flickr and facebook. Its just a bad idea that makes me amazed that it was even considered. It would destory sites like google. Although, it looks like it might not pass:
