I have mods on my minecraft.jar file, is there any way I could have a separate clean .jar file? I already have a copy of my clean .jar file but I don't know how to make sure I'll be using that one when I log into multilayer.

Any suggestions?

Its quite simple actually.
Just rename the files when doing what you need.

When you want to turn mods off then just rename that minecraft.jar to something else like mods.jar and rename the clean.jar to minecraft.jar
Thats the method i use when switching between 1.3 and 1.4.

Let me know how this works out for you.

ok perfect, thanks, I'll try it out right now. But how would I be able to pick which .jar file my client would use?

It will only use the .jar file that is named minecraft.jar
As long as the one you want to use it called minecraft.jar it will be working, you can name the other file anything you like.

I use a seperate folder in which I have copies of the .jars, and just interchange them. As long as you delete the one you don't want to use (you will have another copy) from the bin folder, and replace it with the "clean" one, it should work. I do that for playing single player on 1.4 and multiplayer on 1.3

ohhhh, so whenever I want to play with mods, I rename the .jar file to minecraft.jar and change the clean one to clean.jar or whatever, correct? but is it ok if its in two separate folders?

The game will run off only the bin folder in the .minecraft folder. You'll need to physically change or replace the current minecraft.jar in that folder. For what it's worth, I just have a folder with the old .jar and whenever I need it I just copy/paste
(and replace) into the bin folder. To "update" I just delete the bin and when you reload minecraft it'll give you a fresh bin. Really it just comes down to what's easiest for you.

Good luck!
