So hear me out...

Due to it looking very foggy to see pistons available to everyone in the nearby future, here is my idea to handle with this...

We have a system where we "take turns" to have the ability to place pistons within the map...

What I say we do it create a request form to request permission to place pistons and this request would only be allowed to trusted members on the server...

I could code a php web application for organizing this or find some way to incorporate it into the vbulletin forum software.

It would be similar to a temp visa request that we use with regions...

Even if people grief with pistons, can't you just roll back within a set radius? Or can bigbrother not do that?

It does not track changes made by pistons, so even if a trusted person placed it a not trusted person could run it and greif with it.

there is no way in bucket currently that can track piston event

trust me i have been looking for solutions

Whether or not we know who has them, when they grief nothing can be done to fix it.

that is why only true and trusted members such as you or me could use them. People who have been with the server for some time...

You can't honestly call yourself a trusted member and expect me to keep a straight face. You would rather play elsewhere when the server doesn't conform to your needs.

The problem is how to specify whether a player is a trusted player or not...
Someone might snap like Bran did and go on a griefing frenzy, and if that person waits until he gets the pistons, his griefing has to be undone automatically.

But I was wondering, can't you just disable them from working? So we can place them behind walls and such already so we don't have to take everything down when we put pistons in it when they get enabled. So basically just the piston, but one that doesn't work (yet).

I think there's also a possibility that restricting pistons to "trusted" members only could create an atmosphere of jealousy where people who don't get access to them become frustrated e.g "If x can have them why can't i? I'm just as trustworthy". Then, as assault said, there's also the issue of someone suddenly snapping and deciding they're just gonna outright ruin everything with their piston access which then has to be painstakingly rolled back manually.

Btw assault, I'm unsure whether or not it's possible to give people the ability to place pistons but not activate them but if it is it could be an effective way of helping out people who are maybe putting off making parts of their projects until they get them (although finding you've made a mistake when you go to activate them all could be crushing!)

This is a plugin where someone's working on making no extending... but i don't know if its working properly now...

As much as a trusted idea is hopeful it isn't a good method. It's such a shame we live in an age of tardnation where people deliberately turn into a douche. Unfortunately, no such protocol or automated system can ever eradicate it.

Tigger already found that sunday... :/
I saw his reply on that page.

I hope this works as well. When I say work I mean it actually prevents people from duping rather than alert when it's happening. I'm sure the server would be filled with flags on the latter not to mention the opportunists we have instilled here(All those DDay freaks!).

it prevents pistons from pushing up sand or gravel

Lack of server loyalty doesn't necessarily imply lack of trustworthiness. You can play elsewhere and still respect people in all servers. But, I agree with Yennage; this would probably cause a lot of strife.
