well my question would be why is there no shop. the answer, it hasn't been updated to 1.3 standards yet. my next question why was it able to be put up temporarily whilst in 1.3? and why take it down. i think we should keep it up so we have a way to sell our stuff and get basic materials for until it is updated

The plugin was never officially updated to 1.3 and contains a number of bugs (aka not always taking/giving money when buying/selling). Whilst we did get it working temporarily there were a number of other problems that affected server performance due to incompatibilities.

I've since spoken to the dev and he is currently working on a full rewrite of the plugin so be patient. We are testing potential temporary replacements.

What about player made shops as a temporary solution? Since the shop is down, now would be a perfect time to test if it would work or not. This would created a more dynamic economy and competition would keep prices low for players.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think you could do this with the showcase plugin. Unobtainable items, such as ice, could be sold in admin shops for a set price. I know it has been debated for a long time, but like I said, with the shop down its better than nothing. And if used with the showcase plugin shops would always be there for players to use, provided they are stocked. If player made shops are successful, having a trade world or a central area for shops would make it convenient for players too.

That sounds way better than a command based shop and the competition between shop owners sounds like a cool concept. +1

If it uses those display block shops like the wool shop that probably wouldnt work if they could be player made. They cause a ton of lag it seems.

I know a mod on another server where you put a sign with the price of the item that the player wants to buy above a chest with the item your selling in it and when anyone wants to buy that item they right click on the sign. That might be what michaelavena is talking about.

I believe he was talking about the ShowCaseStandalone plugin, which the server already uses.

I've seen it used in large quantities with no lag.

That being said, I think adding in player-made shops is a lot of work. Maybe just make an admin shop with a warp to it or something, which would effectively serve as the global shop.

The ShowcaseStandalone plugin CAN cause lag, but this only happens with servers that lag already, and it only creates local lag afaik. I've used the plugin for a long while on a friend's server.

Well then this server lags already because when you spam the wool shop the entire server lags for a few seconds.

I think a physical shop would be a great alternative to the command based shop.

I agree. We should get one started. Also an idea i came up for if we decide to have one. Why not have a contest thing for building it and designing it just to get population involvment. I beleive it would have lots of diffrent entries as most everyone wants a shop

the lag that is caused by all sign shops or the showcase plugin, is server lag.

This lag is not only felt on servers that already have lag issues, but even on servers that dont have any lag issues before these plugins are implemented. The cause is: every time a player right clicks to buy something from a sign shop, the server has to stop what its doing to process the transaction as the highest priority item so that the player gets said item instantly. Unfortunately this is an inherent issue within the bukkit environ. We would have to edit the bukkit server software itself to fix this issue.

this is also the reason that we haven't brought in any sign or player based shops other than showcase, as that showcase causes the least amount of server lag.
