Started working on the Rainbow Road Horse Race track...should move along somewhat fast since the only expensive item is the lapis that purple and cyan dyes take up...the glass is cheap enough. The starting gate is sand/gravel that drops quickly to allow players to line up before the race (with a three second timer so the player throwing the switch can reposition themselves). Thanks to dph for finding me the flowers to speed up some of the dye collecting process.

Sort of an update, finished carving out my third and final underground room on the Rainbow Road track. Two of which - combined, are to cause a sort of optical illusion that the player is upside down when racing along the track. The third has a redstone lamp 'event' where Boo ghost lights up when the racer approaches. Took great pains to hide the redstone lamps. Will the optical illusion work? Just have to wait and see...

Finally some more pics of additions to the track...(no one will know how painful making the lava room was...I will never do that again -_-)

I think you can put carpet on ice if you want, might make some parts look more like the road.

I'm still chipping away at the Rainbow Road ... it's officially a year long project now but I just finished carving out the last room - honest!! (I would seriously like to know how Nana and others can stand strip mining all the way to bedrock. I can only handle it in hour sessions yet all my major projects seem to require it.)

All I have to do now is drain a lava bed or two, create a underground lake so the horses won't take fall damage, make a dozen parkour platforms out of giant mushrooms (either by VERY carefully placed spurt-growths or tearing apart giant mushrooms with a silk pick and re-assembling where needed), then make a Mario-themed pixel art or two, and finally an underwater glass tunnel that will lead back to the finish line. Simple.

Uhh...see you next year?

The mushroom parkour is poking along, but I've added these colorful obstructions for horse riders to maneuver through...uh...will it create lag? I can add a switch to turn it on and off....

Unfortunately, the sheep toting minecart doesn't actually push the horse (actually the other way around) but the goal is to turn the race into a cool pick-me-up. So far the poor horse doesn't take fall damage...I actually had to remove some initial ideas like slime block/piston launch pads because the horse died. R.I.P.

Good news - the mushroom parkour part is done and my race track now has a continuous loop from start to finish! Just a couple more weekends of work and the year-long project should be done...
