i think there should be a rank called member or user that distinguishes new players from expierienced players so that when new players join, they'll go to the members for support.

We could call players with less than 10 hours experience on our server Noob Loosers, then we would know and I'm sure they would not mind.

Or based on our post rank/ participation on the server itself. Though newer people like you Tommy would still be in the beginner/noob list (no offence) would get normal stuff. But the staff would award the ranks and you could get stuff with it like better kits (add like some I don't know, iron tools? Weapons like swords and bows?) the ranks would give us something more to achieve, and the non donors, aren't considered new/noobish. The donors are usually more respected because it looks like they have achieved something to others. I did like the concept of the architect rank, because it means they are a good builder. Sooo ranks would be fun. But not that the first 10 hours makes you a member. Many people have been on that long then left because they die or they loose stuff. The concept you are guys are talking would be more complicated. Maybe like a few months makes you a builder, and around a year a builder. But 10 hours, that's probably not the greatest idea. Though a rank for people who can't donate would be nice. Then we can be recognized besides a newbie rank. I hope me input isn't ignored! -Monkeyz505 :)

Personally I think more ranks that aren't staff will cause confusion. Green is for members, colours are for the staff. As it is the various ranks could be a little confusing for a new player! Also, this rank would have to be assigned arbitrarily, which would cause tension between those who got it and those who think they should get it.

Even if we did have a rank like that, I don't think veterans would get special kits.

Thanks for idea tommy.
I think there's merit in showing that someone has been on the server for a long time.
Those players would know more server commands, and know more about where all the portals are etc etc.

I think it would actually be cool to have a prefix that somehow shows the number of days or hours a player has been on the server....
The names could still be green, but with a prefix...
how about:
player -new player
[1]player -has played 100 hrs on the server
[5]player - has played 500 hours on the server
etc

The problem here is I'm just throwing out ideas, I have no idea if we could even gather the stats for play time....
Also this could be a pain to implement initially, because the prefixes may have to be entered at console via keyboard, and there may be many members who have more than 100 hrs of play time.

Giving players numbers would also mean that members are 'stuck' with a number and being a number is not good.
If you want to know when they joined, you can always look them up through this website. Mostly there are only a few days inbetween, joining the server and the forums.. ;

I don't think we necessarily need to reward long-standing players with frivolous ranks or numbers or whatnot. Most people know who has been here for a while. And those who joined a long time ago and are valued members can end up being rewarded with a staff position. Most of the time a staff member is on, or a helpful community member will answer the questions they can.

but I would say it would be for the newer people... but yeah that makes sence to I guess...

Also to be honest I really don't want to know how many hours i've been on the server... It'd be a bit insane...

I started counting hours played since the last stats plugin but then stopped it (maple, 83 hours in 1 month :P). It would be tough to get a real number (local stats can be adjusted).

I like the idea of ranking up in a game. Experience orbs are the only measurable ranks built in and that system is flawed. Ranks seem to be already built in Minecraft. You punch a tree, make a wood tool, find some gold, make a gold tool. I don't think giving tools or caps to someone for being part of a new rank makes sense.

Tommy, I like the idea, but I think the representative group is as close as we can get to what you're talking about. I think it's important we keep our community as open as we can but maybe one day we'll need to structure it differently (100+ players! cmon!!).

We should have like a stats page for that to check how many hour a day or week or something. Anyone else like that idea

i really think we need a new rank (maybe just 1) because expierienced players that have been in all the competitions or have a plot are being compared to new members who might even know what the space bar is used for.

Experienced players are recognized by other experience players as they tend to know eachother if they have played on the server for a while. Noobs will be noobs, and will always be easy to recognize as noobs. I don't see the point of a rank like this because it makes you wonder where the line is between deserving the rank and not deserving it.

Yay I like minions :P but you have to be the minion. Now clean my feet!
