Redstone Sponges

While looking for cool Bukkit plugins to experiment with, I noticed the sponge plugin that MCAddicts uses. I saw that you can enable redstone control, so that when you direct redstone to the sponge it "turns off" to let water pass again. Could we enable this on the server, for stuff like floodgates, etc? I would love to make some cool water-covered/controlled secret areas like I did on SSP with the Control Block mod.
 
Sounds pretty cool to me.
Not sure how heavy it would be on the server though.
Have you got a link so that it could be checked out?
 
sponges are currently broken so im not sure if something like that would work
