G'day,

I have heard about some suggestions to help "walk through" newbies to our site.

As we all know, the same old questions get asked within their 1st hour.

"Where can I build"

"Why can't I build here"

"How do I TPA"

"Why did my house made of 300 diamond blocks get greifed"

There would probably be 10 basic noob questions that we could create stock answers to.

Soooo, could we, via the console have the following, for example.

Noob "Where can I build"

Experienced Member "type /help 1"

When noob types /help 1, they get a quick dialog of why they cannot build.

Noob "what command do I use to xxxxx"

EM says "Type /help 2"

Dialog box comes up saying, go to forum address/commands

We could have 10 stock answers for the 10 usual questions.

It's not like us experienced people don't want to help, but we also want to build and mine as well. 20 questions from 5 noobs per night gets very tiring and we often ignore them.

Chew it over, or what other suggestions do we have out there???

I think we should have a FAQ that outlines all these basic questions. That way, you could just tell them to go to the site and read the FAQ.

It's a good idea, but doing the /help thing would overwrite our current 6 pages of help, that contains most of the commands on the server.

The faq thing would be nice under play.

There is a video being made with all the tuts and such. I think CommanderFluffy is on it.

When we are friendly, they stay.

All for FAQ

I think we were supposed to have some sort of mentor system in place so that experienced players can help out new players, not too sure about what happened to that.

A getting started page that replaces the play page is in the works. Mentorship still needs to be tweeked so it works well here.

New tips ingame are in the works. Videos/tuts and site improvements in the works

I feel most here do their best at mentoring, however it can wear a bit thin at times and some instant answers could help. Yes, some commands are in help etc. My suggestion was based on the noob not having to go away to our site, it was a way of dropping an instant answer in their lap without us having a lot of typing to do.

If however my idea wipes out the current help, then I guess it wont work.

Sending noobs to our site for info won't work as well, they just keep asking the same question till they get an answer or leave.

When I am on the site is very empty, 3~4 players only usually plus noobs dropping in asking the same old questions.

Tips IN GAME are great.

I saw a plugin not that long ago that automatically answers frequently asked questions. The phrases of the question and answers go into the config file; when someone asks a particular question, it gives them a pre-determined answer. Although, im assuming they would have to ask it exactly as stated in the config file.

Godspeed, true, however if it's our intention to have the site grow and our membership expand we need to nurture the newbies do we get less "wastage". Of course, that is where mentoring assists and I am all for it. I'm sure you have seen me take a newbie under my wing in the past.

This thread was to toss ideas around so that when we have a newbie, they feel welcomed and have there usual questions answered in a timely manner.

I am certain that the more senior members here are working on many ways to nurture and retain our newbies, it's making the life of a more experienced player a bit easier that I was referring to.

michaelavena, that is a nice idea for a plugin.

Im guessing it wouldn't take in to account spelling mistakes as well which are most commonly made by the new members.

I'm sure there would probably be a plugin somewhere that would allow the same sort of setup as /help but instead /faq or something. Not all users are willing to come to the website for some reason and not everyone wants to build in the build world so wouldn't be required to register a forum account.
Not all users are willing to come to the website however an
