First, I think that a lot of people reacted to the "news" emotionally instead of getting the facts. Mojang released the news poorly, no denying that - they should have used a more official channel than Skype and given better clarification about what they planned to do, but I can't see them cutting their own throat by impacting the income of minecraft servers (at least, not the reasonable ones...)
Second, no new EULA has been published, there hasn't even been a statement made about specific changes. And yet... there was a DDOS that crashed the servers when the news of the change was made on SKYPE! (Mind ya, not the official Mojang website or in the game feeds itself but just mentioned on a chat program..) How stupid is that? "We're going to rant and rave at you for changing the rules even though you haven't changed them yet, haven't said what specifically is changing AND when you do make the changes you're going to make our illegal actions legal. Soooo...in reaction we're going to crash the servers that let us play the game, as a form of protest!"
Sorry, but every person involved (on both sides) gets a new title : -- S T U P I D I T Y I N C A R N A T E --
To be honest, I don't think Mojang should try to control any part of what servers charge in game. If people are dumb enough to pay an outrageous price for something in the game, that's on them. Mojang is not the world's babysitter or accountant, so why worry about what players are paying on a server? "Buyer beware" is the motto of the day. Still, even if Mojang is silly enough put their foot in this bear trap, I can't see them making any changes that would hurt the average server.
