The Nether instead of the Outlands

Here is my idea.

I say that the Minecraft Addicts server should enable Nether with similar settings to the outlands. Mobs and everything would spawn there.

I think it would make the server more awesome than it already is.

Just my two cents...

Go play Singleplayer and place a portal, "ride" it to the nether.
Walk eight blocks in any direction once in the nether and build another portal.
Go through it.
You'll know why nether won't be here in the near future.

Fire is off anyway, making it nearly impossible to create portals. However, there is the extremly rare chance that a ghast lights the portlal, but im sure there is a mod that turns that off.

It does not matter if fire is on the server or not, the portals would be pre-built. Instead of the warps at the /warp pvp there would be portals.

I was not saying that it should be added as soon as the next update, but an idea for the future.

I was not saying that our future plans were related to this thread... it was more of a statement to the fact that this thread is relatively redundant and that anyone interested in this thread should keep their eye on the forum. The topic of nether has been on the table for about 6 months now and it's something that we will eventually offer.

Yes.

Though I did not have any idea that it has been "on the table" for six months now. I find a lot of other big servers run the nether (even before notch implemented it) with no issue, I just thought it would be a neat idea to have it run on the addicts.

I guess it is for the better to wait anyway with notch spitting out new updates every 2-6 weeks... Maybe when Minecraft becomes 1.0 (out of beta) in November??

there is only 4 block types there and ghasts shooting at you non stop and pigmen screaming.

Exactly... Unless the nether gives you free diamonds for killing pigmen istead of pork, I would rather have a nice peaceful outlands!

The actual terrain. The out-lands that is close to the border has turned into an eye sore... Floating trees, random noob towers, holes, etc.
