I've scaled the orbit distance from the sun so they'd fit into Capitol here. From the spawn to the edge of capitol, it's roughly 1600 blocks

Mercury - 16 blocks from Spawn

Venus - 29 blocks from Spawn

Earf - 40 blocks from spawn

Mars - 61 blocks from Spawn

Jupiter - 210 blocks from Spawn

Staurn - 385 blocks from spawn

Uranus - 776 blocks from spawn

Neptune - 1215 blocks from Spawn

Pluto - 1580 blocks from Spawn

These distances pose a small problem though. If they planets were in a straight line lets say north from the sun (Spawn) some of them would over lap, however this really wouldn't matter because the planets are never in a straight line. You guys okay with that?

I talked to mk breifly about this, he noticed that the planets are too close to spawn. Here are the revised distances. I've added 100 blocks to every planet distance except pluto.

Mercury - 116 blocks from Spawn

Venus - 129 blocks from Spawn

Earf - 140 blocks from spawn

Mars - 161 blocks from Spawn

Jupiter - 310 blocks from Spawn

Staurn - 485 blocks from spawn

Uranus - 876 blocks from spawn

Neptune - 1315 blocks from Spawn

Pluto - 1580 blocks from Spawn

Again, with this scale it will look pretty accurate still. You guys okay with this?

You guys have really thought about this. It looks and sounds great, also a bit weird. But please continue this project! ;)
And don't forget to have fun! :3

More work be done! I've found locations for the planets. I was originaly going to pick out a point of the circumference of the planets orbit and put the planet there, but then I thought to myself, it would be much better to locate the planets as close to the interstate as possible without looking too close.

Listed below are the coordinates I've chosen for each planet, and below that I've drawn out a little picture to give you guys an idea of where the planets will go.

Mercury:
X: 54
Z: -116

Venus:
X: 129
Z: 85

Earf:
X: -140
Z: -115

Mars:
X: -161
Z: --155

Jupiter:
X: 260
Z: 310

Saturn:
X-320
Z: 485

Uranus:
X: 175
Z: 576

Neptune:
X: -1315
Z: -210

Pluto:
X: -1580
Z: -30

Wow, nice work! Haven't had a chance to visit these in game yet but providing Jupiter's location is close enough to sea level to allow for the 128 height without much flattening I'm good with all of those spots

We cant forget the asteroid belt. :-) a scattering of gravel / cobble?

Also I think we can get rough maps from some planets and use a block conversion tool to get the proper materials set.

We have a program or something that will create a "Ghost" when you paste build in, and you can fill that "Ghost" with blocks of your choice. Could we utilize that program for this build? Spheres aren't easy to build.

Yeah, I used that when building my airship for the contest. It's very useful. Who will be building this?

I'd say builders who have proven to us that they're capable of building good, and people who can listen.

I think the arc idea is good for the orbital rings. Another point which I wish to raise is the sun, is it planned to be omitted, or will it be above the spawn or what?

Also if it is above spawn (as well as the ground under the planet locations), due to the way minecraft does the lighting it will be forever in darkness, unless someone puts torches or something.

And as for the ground in capital, I'm mostly for the house building contest idea, but I still think it'd be nice to maybe have houses where new players can build instantly, without having to claim on the forums. Maybe have 'nice' looking houses closer to the spawn and 'new player' houses farther...

I don't really mind what's built there, but I think planets is a very unique and original idea. And anything (almost) is better than nothing.

Staff hosted contests have always been done in creative, giving everyone a fair chance to build something great in the small contest time.
Only contest I can think of that wasn't was limos airship contest but that wasn't staff hosted (he was staff at the time, but it was a personal contest).

I put up a separate thread to discuss a "build spawn village"
this thread is mostly for the planets idea.

oh, sry mavaje, that thread is in admin forums....
I may move it if alien thinks that would be ok.

I got schematica working today.

took a bit of research, feel free to ask about it ingame.

It does need forge

Finally got singleplayer commands running, with the help of this tutorial:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?annot...&feature=iv&src_vid=2xdc6qe65_M&v=_3l45a0bWI0

schematica link:

http://www.minecraftforum.net/topic/1468779-164162-schematica/

so, using world edit(singleplayer commands) in a 1.6.2 profile, I made a 20 dia sphere.
then, using forge and schematica in a 1.6.4 profile, i went back to the sphere, made a schematic, and started building.

the upper sphere shows the "ghost" plan of schematica, with the bottom layer of stone set.

schematica works on MCA server, I checked it today.

The challenge, as i see it, is for multiple players to use the same schematic to build together.

Here is "mercury" with "bit of orbit ring", from my build plot.
