A while ago, slinkycc attempted to start a archery competition, which did not happen. But now, with 1.4.2 on our hands, i have decided to attempt this once again. It is still in the planning stages, and a date is not set yet, but i will show you the two redstone designs for archery targets i have made.

This design is made for the ground/floor.

This is the wiring for it.

And this is what it looks like when the target is hit, or it is not active.

And this is the design meant to be put into a wall, like a side of a mountain.

Once again, the wiring.

I still need to figure out how they will be activated, and how the order is set up. I believe I will use the side of the mountains on my property to host this event. Please tell me your feedback, or, if you want, ways of compacting the redstone a bit. I will continue to work on this, and we will have an archery contest!

Basically, a button signal is sent to the back, which turns on the target. this turns on a T-flipflop, which turns on the lights, and allows the wood button to shut the target off. This is so it can't turn on when the target is already off. And when the wood button is hit, it sends a single pulse to the t flip flop, which turns the whole thing off.

So sorta what you said. I guess.

yeah, the only problem , is that someone needs to pick up the arrows, because they won't disappear. Bit of a bother really...

I tried using a wooden button for tests already
but they seem to only detect arrows on the bottom half of the block
so when someone hits the top half no redstone signal is sent and it doesn't count as a hit...

Considering most arrow shots go down slightly, that might not be too much of a problem. In terms of the contest, I'm still looking for good positions in my mountains. Can't be too far, or too close, and also interesting. If I could just sOlve the issue where the arrow stays there...

Does water get rid of buttons? If not, you could use a quick-drain system to collect the arrows maybe.

I do believe it does. If it didn't, the water would go around the button, as if it were a full block, which would prevent the arrow from being removed. Also, i researched the time it takes to despawn. One minute exactly. Still a bit long for a contest, but beats five minutes that I thought it was.

also another idea for this contest. you get 3 arrows and there are 2 item frames placed in front of the button. you hit the item frames then button for max points

Maybe. I know it could be possible.it would be a nice mini target.

EDIT: Doesnt despawn in survival, but due to the unreliability of it falling on the wooden pressure plate, a no no.
