USB drive write protected

What I did was I copied iDVD from one computer to a flash drive so I could put in on another computer (since they don't sell iDVD anymore) I think iDVD somehow write-protected my USB drive and I can't seem to undo it. I can't delete the files or format the drive. Any solutions that don't involve downloading programs? All the files on the drive are backed-up so losing the files is not a problem.

I only know how to do this from Linux and Windows sorry if u only have Access to a Mac :S

But for windows open up your command prompt and type

cd C:windows\System32\

Assuming your drive letter is J (it can be anything)

then type

J:

then type

format J:

Then just press enter and choose yes, then you gotta wait a while. And it should be brand new.

Didn't seems to work. I just get this error message.

Nah that didn't work either. I tried English, Spanish, German and Mandarin. Any other languages I should try? I'll just ask my programmming teacher tommorow if he can help me fix it.

Nope, theres definatley no switch. That's the first thing I checked. And my programming teacher was unable to do it either. Nineteen, I don't think it is. It became write protected from a Mac btw, it has something to do with the iDVD.app file. I just can't delete it.

Well i had this problem with a USB of mine. Formating looks like the way to go but if you cant even access the thing then were out of luck.

If you messed it up on a mac you must reformat it with a mac and make sure to format it to fat32.
You might get away with putting it in the mac and setting the permissions to read/write for everyone.

i would try throwing it on a linux box and formatting it through there. oh derp, is it one of those special USBs that has the drive encryption built right in? if it is, you have to buy a new USB. or you could try a magnet (absolute last resort)?

follow the steps


1.Open a new note pad file.

2.Copy this

cd\
reg add “HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\StorageDevicePolicies” /t Reg_dword /v

WriteProtect /f /d 0

3.save it as DISABLEWP.BAT

4.Then copy it to start up folder.

When you insert a pendrive it remove write protection.If it becomes.Or simply use any software which fix this kind of problem.You may try LONG PATH Tool.It may help you.Thanks.

Thank you for the solution, but I no longer have this flash drive. It had a warranty on it and I wound up just having it replaced. But again, thank you very much.
