What the heck are these things?!

Ive been messing with 1.6 for some modding reasons lately, and today, apparently, was the 1.6.6 update. So i open Minecraft, create a new world and these white things are all over the place!

Can anyone tell me what these things are and how i can get rid of them?
 
ok thanks ges ill just go back to the default texture
 
Notch added a lot of things to 1.6 which have not been put into use. There are used item IDS, but when put into the world, it is blank and does nothing.
