Why we should skip 1.8.

I'm on leopard and I have made 3 new worlds in 1.8 and played em well
what seems to be the issue?

There's been a healthy amount of traffic the last few days. And as for new members, there's loads of new members usually everyday, except for the rollback periods. I don't think that we'll really miss the amount of new people that usually join, help cause some lag and then most of the time leave, never to return.

@kking1 Apparently, Notch decided to code the shading in a version of OpenGL that doesn't usually run on most 10.5.8 computers. It's not just macs, there's also been a few windows users having problems with 1.8

Assault you dont know what you are talking about, we've had almost no traffic 6 new people a day is not allot man. None have joined either.

No new claims = we are idle.

The server will update to the new version when the plugins are released and updated to 1.8

Hey guys Minecraft doesn't work on my Windows95 computer can we make it compatible with Windows95. I once donated $5 and feel it's unfair that I can't play.

100GB? That's not enough. I need my 1 Terabyte...

But on the actual topic at hand, I'll agree with Akimotokun, it shouldn't change until everyone's computer is capable of adapting, all the bugs are fixed, etc. Those of you who want to use the new blocks, I say to you: single player mode.

ha your 1 TB is small to me

This is basically like saying we should wait for people to update their computers because they're 10 years old and cannot run minecraft.
For all the people that can't play because of the issue, which doesn't seem to be many people here, need an update.

It's not ten years old. The years old would be Tiger, which is comparable to windows XP.
Leopard is 'only' 4 years old, which means it's even newer than windows Vista, which is 5 years old.

update a mac as often as you can. period. new versions of applications may not run on old builds. get a pc update to win 7 and tada no more upgradeing issues till win 8 comes out... that could be 4-5 years future. osx will have a new build out in a few months is my guess.. thats why i hate apple.. too many updates and its not a simple patch its the whole damn thing.

It was easy when hardware and software vendors were basically the same thing. New product = lots of money. Since then, more possibilities have opened up to the home consumer in regards to various aspects of computing. Most notably the mix and match of hardware and software. Or... software and software.

What the Mac makes up for in convenience it lacks in *actual* function/price value. Sure, they may charge you a small fee per addition, but what if that addition had been a new shiny fart button? I don't pay for farts. :p

This may be due to Apple's philosophy of providing the hardware AND software. Thus making the better known and more openly distributed Windows platform ahead of the game. Some Mac users I know would describe themselves as early adopters and more technologically able. But jumping on the horse first doesn't mean you're winning the race.

And being a snobby brat doesn't make you look any smarter(only talking about the people I know personally, so no offense). ;)

I'll be honest though, I want a Mac myself. I just don't want the price.

Microsoft is no saint though.

For instance, did you know Tesselation existed in OpenGL long before Microsoft even bothered thinking about it? Even Jon Carmack (ever hear of Doom?) explained multiple times that DirectX computing methods are unoptimized, bloated, overcomplicated, and is just overeall crap. But Microsoft's resolve to top the market with its own software (for its' own software) is unending. Even if Redmond did restructure the the DX API, OpenGL is capable of so much more... :( (Think Minecraft's multiplatformability.)

Khronos just has to get its damn act together.

I like value. Being forced to pay to replace a part that's already capable of what I'm supposed to be replacing is downright stupid (Shader Model #+1, DirectX #+1). That's not value, that's ignorance. I don't pay for ignorance. :)

So, with that in mind:

I'm inclined to think that if I'm using a computer I built in 2008 and I'm still able to play anything reasonably well (40+ fps) on a single 22" monitor (Rift, Dead Island, etc - minus some dx11 features), the mainstream numbers for upgrade progression I'm seeing are graphed to the best of the best frame of mind. Triple monitors, everything maxed, yada yada. There's absolutely no reason to upgrade if you're upgrading smart. Or if you have the money to legitimately waste on bacon burners.

I can't speak for the future, but if it does come time to upgrade before 2015, I'll have to upgrade because of dev laziness(strict monopolizing API dependence), not because I actually need to upgrade.

But to get to the point:

1.8 transition? Not worth it in my opinion. Sure, new chunk generator(which won't blend with our current map), fancier lights(still no shadows damnit!), a new mob(griefing coded into the game), and some new blocks. And a few less relevant additions (in reference to -actual- use to the game currently). <.<

And I don't think there's even a stable 181 release for Bukkit yet. And I know for sure our current plugin environment won't be sustained through the transition if it were to happen soon. There are too many people needing to update their plugins, and the semester just started (at least here in the us).

tl;dr: more headache than it's worth.

But that's just me. :D

Let's look at the cute white baby seal:

If some of this doesn't make sense, that's most likely due to my lack of sleep and having written this in a very very short amount of time.

Minor edit: I didn't intend for this to sound like I was ripping at anyone in particular.

We can't wait for a few people to update their computer if it means letting go of many new people.

Also, I don't get how you can vouch for such an idea.

Here are facts:

1.8 release for bukkit is in a long time
1.9 release for bukkit is therefore at a later date.

You say we should wait even longer for them to release 1.9 while running 1.7 all this time so you can continue playing?

Do you get how we see it now?

If my computer became not good enough to run 1.9 or final release, I'd upgrade or shut up about it.
I suggest you do the same.

Who're you referring to? I don't think it makes a huge difference. Just to say that we're turning down people just because we're not up to date isn't necessarily ignorant.

1.7.3 is still available. There are instructions on the website for anyone -taking the time- to read.

In my opinion, we just don't need to update to every shiny new version.

there doesnt need to be anymore discussion about this topic in the end its really all up to static and jangles

i will be closing this till either of them feel the need to open this up again
