1.7.3 Migration Poll

Should we migrate to 1.7 with pistons disabled?

  • Yes, we can enable pistons when the dupe bug is fixed.

  • No, 1.7 is pointless without the piston addon, let's stay 1.6 for now.

To date, no fix has been supplied for the piston dupe bug that is present in the 1.7.x server/bukkit code. While we'd like to believe that the next release will solve this issue, there is no guarantee that this will be the case (or that another dupe bug will not be found shortly thereafter).

We are not prepared to allow this dupe bug to be exploited on our server. We can, however, move to 1.7.3 with pistons removed from the game until a fix has been released and tested.

What would you guys like to do?

I would say yes, seeing as how 90% of the people that join our server after an update have no intention of using redstone or anything related. Plus I want to have a D-day NAOW!

I think there are a lot of potential new players being putoff joining the server because it means they have to roll back to 1.6. Plus, i won't feel bad anymore, punching sheep. I say yay.

voted yes
we can just go on
get new people on because of latest version
and having the benefits of 1.7.3 excluding pistons
(however I will miss d-day :( )

Move it! Some fixes and such in 1.7.3, plus bukkit has fixed a large memory leak in their new release. This will improve performance, and updating usually brings a lotta new players, cause they don't want to have to go through the work or rolling back...Just my opinion.

May as well just go to 1.7 atleast we'll get some new players on board.
I see no reason why anyone would have a problem not using pistons for a while.

It could even work if you were to enable only normal pistons as you need both for duping.
You'd need to make sure that slime wasn't available or disabled placements (not sure if that's how you were going to do it anyway)

If we move to 1.7 or not, we cant use pistons, so we might as well move to 1.7. I like to play SP in 1.7 and switching .jars often is getting annoying.

How about do this this coming weekend so people get a full day doze of D-day also rather than half peeps being at work
Either way, we're gonna be waiting for pistons
might as well do it on 1.7 than 1.6

Yep we may as well go to 1.7, especially as there's still been no news of a Minecraft update to fix it (just so long as there's an motd letting all the new players know they're disabled!)

I also think alien's idea about only disabling sticky pistons could work as the dupe bug needs both and the sticky pistons are arguably less frequently used.

i could argue that they are needed or most anything piston related :p but i agree that disabling sticky pistons could be one way to go about it

I say shoot! But no d-day this weekend!

Friday? or Monday?

Gah... That hurts. I actually had planned on practising making some stuff using pistons and to me that's basically 1.7.

Curse you Notch and your botched coding. Something as simple as a dup bug to ruin my plans. :(

Looks like we're favoring a move to 1.7. I'll let the poll stay up for the weekend.

Just out of couriosity, dont we use the nocheat plugin? Shouldnt it pick up on the dupe bug?

Edit:

After checking it out on bukkit, it looks like it does not pick up on the dupe bug :(
