We seem to have a exceedingly large amount of uninformed players joining. I thought it would be a good idea that we have a sticky in the Builder Requests board, possibly where all new requests need to acknowledge that they've read it.

This is the first iteration. There's some good information that still needs to be added, so let me know what you can think of, criticism, and if you support this. Wiki links and more FAQs are the most notable improvements I can think of.

This is a guide to answer frequently asked questions and to provide you with information needed to jump into the game and start using your imagination with as few speedbumps as possible.

The First Step

You need to create an account here and make a topic in the builder request board explaining why you want to play on the server. Make sure to note that your in-game name is different from your forum name if it is. How long it takes to become accepted is variable, depending on when an admin sees your topic.

It's ideal to take this time to explore the server and/or find a piece of land you'd like to build on. Until you're accepted as a builder, you can't break or build anything.

Finding land to call your own
You'll most likely want some sort of house or base where you can store materials in chests, craft materials, smelt materials, a full blown headquarters, or just some underground cave to put your stuff while you build on the surface.

If walking around is too slow, you can give yourself an isometric view of the world here
http://server.minecraftaddicts.com/map/index.html
You can use that to help find a location or to help direct yourself around. Turn on the signposts to see descriptions or who has claimed what.

You can't just build next to anyone, though. You generally want to build out of site of someone else unless you have their acknowledgment or permission. They might not want your large tower or castle blocking their view, or they may want to expand their construction.

After you've found a location, head over here to confirm your building location and make a topic in that board. You'll generally want to build a perimeter of cobblestone around your area to prevent anyone from altering your land or thinking it's open.

Another common form of courtesy required is to not radically alter landscape not in your marked location and to try to keep the start of your mining operations in your area, but it's fine to extend underground far underneath other areas. Just don't go mine other peoples' mines.

Tools

Use the command
/kit builderskit
to get a free set of diamond tools that don't break.

Chests
Locking your chests is important. There are 2 methods to do so.
/lwc create private
This prevents anyone from accessing your chest. You must left click the chest you want to make private after entering the command.

/cpassword yourpasswordhere
then left click it
This is used for securing chests that you are sharing with other people, usually for team projects.

Frequently asked questions

Q) What are those huge holes in the ground or ocean?
A) Those are chunk errors. Improperly loaded sections of land. If they are disrupting your work, relog back into the server. You can't fall down them, but you can get stuck. Relog to get out or mine a block next to the wall where you're stuck and try to move onto it.

thanks for the work but if this grows it will be way to much to read.

Maybe a rules page under builders can point to the different subjects in the forums?

This way we don't have duplications of information if things change that would cause us to have to change two different areas at the same time. not a good idea.

Maybe a link page to existing areas would be a good idea, will look into this.

oooo i like this may i rewrite some of it? me and lofp will discuss about this topic.

i commend you on this im also kinda working on this on the side.

Sure, it can be made more concise.
Better formatting can make it look less wall-of-texty.

exactly what i was thinking. good job garquille. myself and lofp have talked about it and will be putting a plan into action soon.

I agree that we should push to establish an area of the forums for these purposes. Finding the balance between "wall-of-text" and "too-many-stickies" is going to be a task, but I'm definitely on board with the idea of providing the necessary information in a way that it can be found (and understood) easily.

Your post was very well written Garquille, thanks for the effort you put into getting this rolling. I'd be more than happy to help write as well, just drop me a line if you guys need help.

ok so rather then a wall of text or a Sticky forums

we are going to creat a post that will link to information found in diffrent areas of the forums.

we will look at organizing this information commander is already looking at diffrent post that should be incorperated.

I think every one goes to "rules" right away so that prob the best start.
