I've got two Radeon 5650's Crossfire Enabled
On my main card I've got three monitors connected (I want to Eyefinity BF3)

All three monitors are Acer 19" v193w (VGA input)

2 are connected to the DVI-out via VGA Adapter and they work fine
1 is connected to the DisplayPort via DisplayPort to DVI ACTIVE Adapter /w a VGA Adapter on the end of that

My problem is...
- The DisplayPort recognizes that a monitor is connected to it
- The Monitor doesn't receive a signal from the DisplayPort (and thus goes into sleep mode)

My HDMI is disconnected so that shouldn't cause a problem.
The Adapter is definitely ACTIVE and is made by Sapphire. It is made for Eyefinity on ATI cards so it SHOULD work.
Is there any reason the DVI - VGA adapter would cause a problem? I should be able to work the same as the others (which are the same type and work fine)

... hrm ... I don't know?! I updated all my drivers, and now I'm stuck.

is it an ati card? if yes download catylist control center from ati/amd and then activate that second video port in the multi screen setup.

edit. if you have windows 7 however just go to screen resolution on the destop when you right click and change the dropdown settings for multiple displays.

hehe, yes Commander I've gone through all of that.

It is ATI and I do have the latest Catalyst Control Center installed. The monitors are recognized by the software, but the signal either doesn't make it to the Monitor or the Adapter doesn't "adapt" the signal... Just wondering if anyone can help me out with troubleshooting this...

Googling it, other people seem to have had the same issue but with Windows XP because it doesn't support up to 3 monitors. Even when using a DVI-VGA adapter on the end of the VideoPort-DVI adapter they seem to get it to work... The monitor is definitely fine, I'm either missing a setting or something wrong in my connection.

woh wait we have 3 monitors on one card?

can you give me the model number and all that jazz. most card only support 2 displays unless a second card is added. motherboard model might be good i see you have the model on the top....

update reading the specs on the ati site... Catalyst 9.10 driver or above is required to support ATI Eyefinity technology. Actual number of attachable monitors will vary by notebook model.
ATI Eyefinity technology works with games that support non-standard aspect ratios which is required for panning across multiple displays.

Two Cards are ATI RADEON HD 5850

Three monitors are connected to one card which is required for Eyefinity.

I DID have success connecting a DVI monitor to the DisplayPort Adapter and had all three monitors running.
I don't want that monitor however because it is a different make/model so I need to to convert the DVI signal to VGA which I am assuming means I need an active DVI-VGA converter OR I need to just get a DisplayPort to VGA adapter which ... sucks because I want to use what I already have.

Catalyst drivers installed are 12.1 so definitely up to date.

Mono is an asus -- sorry I don't have the model number on hand but it's made to work with Crossfire ATI Cards.

*shrugs*

Once the signal leaves the card if you use an adapter it shouldn't matter. So maybe this monitor is kaputz try it on another computer

Monitor works fine... So it's to do with the signal conversion.

My understanding was an adapter sends a signal to the computer telling it to change it's output signal to the desired type. Which is what the DVI adapter does... but the VGA adapter is unable to do this, so it will simply receive the digital signal from the DVI adapter.

Anyways... I've ordered a DisplayPort to VGA adapter and that should solved my problems... $20 bucks, and a guy in the reviews said it solved the same problem I'm having with Eyefinity and 3 monitors. So I should be good to go as soon as it arrives.

:)

Thanks for your input tho Commander
